JONATHAN MEETS WITH TINUBU AT PRESIDENTIAL VILLA

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Also said to be meeting with the President were the Governors Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara).

While the purpose of the meetings remains unclear, Jonathan’s return to the Villa comes barely a month after his June 13 visit.

Jonathan, who doubles as Head of the ECOWAS Mediation Team to Mali, noted that the visit was to discuss issues pertaining to Africa and the West Africa subregion.

“I came to brief the president about some continental and subcontinental bodies,” he told journalists on his exit from the State House.

“I am the ECOWAS mediator for Mali and I’m the chair of the West African Elders Forum. So, there are certain issues bordering on the continent and the subregion that I discuss with various presidents.”

2023 'ELECTIONS: : ADAMU STRAWS N32B REALISED FROM SALE OF FORMS

Abdullahi Adamu was asked to resign as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday after a prolonged cold war with President Bola Tinubu, TheCable understands.

The APC Chairman was advised to throw in the towel by Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo state and chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF).

Iyiola Omisore, the APC National Secretary, allegedly became incommunicado upon getting wind of the development.

Party sources told journalists that Adamu and Omisore were to face a vote of no confidence by NWC members on Monday afternoon following which they would be sacked by the national executive committee (NEC), chaired by Tinubu, on Wednesday.

There has been a cold war between Tinubu and Adamu since the former governor of Nasarawa state was elected party chairman in March 2022.

But the “final straw”, according to insiders, was Adamu’s failure to account for the N32 billion raised by the party from the sale of forms for the 2023 general election.

“Only N7 billion is left in the account as we speak,” an NWC member told TheCable.

Adamu and Omisore claimed the account has been audited, but we are not aware of when the auditors were appointed. How can NWC not be aware of the appointment? It is part of our responsibilities to appoint auditors.”

Sensing the move to remove him, Adamu had reportedly sought the support of the chairmen of the state chapters of the party but received a cold shoulder.

“By the APC constitution, the proceeds were supposed to be shared with the zonal, state and ward levels of the party, and they were not in the know. So there was no way they were going to support him,” another party insider told TheCable.

ADAMU VS TINUBU: THE RETURN LEG

Before the N32 billion question became a bone of contention, Adamu’s exit appeared imminent.

While Tinubu supported Tanko Al Makura, also a former governor of Nasarawa state, for the position of national chairman, party leaders loyal to former President Muhammadu Buhari rooted for Adamu.

This was thought to be the first move to stop Tinubu from winning the party’s presidential ticket.

Ahead of the APC presidential primary in June 2022, Tinubu complained bitterly that he was being betrayed despite the fact that a gentleman’s agreement was sealed in 2015 for him to succeed Buhari.

His outburst, popularly known as “emi l’okan” (“it’s my turn”), enraged Adamu who threatened that the party would “discipline” him.

In the week of the primary, Adamu informed NWC members that Ahmad Lawan, then senate president, was Buhari’s preferred presidential candidate.

The move was met with protests and condemnation from some quarters, but he stood his ground.

Lawan, a latecomer to the race, lost the primary, coming last with 38 votes against Tinubu’s 371.

Tinubu would go on to lose the presidential election in Nasarawa state, where Adamu was governor from 1999 to 2007.

“It was inevitable that Adamu would bite the dust,” the NWC member told TheCable.

“When the 10th national assembly was about to be inaugurated, it was the APC leadership that was supposed to work behind the scene for the leadership election. Adamu and Omisore were aloof. In fact, it was a known fact that Adamu was supporting Abdulaziz Yari.

“As if that was not enough, when the committee positions were announced, Adamu openly dissociated himself from the list. He had it coming.”

TheCable understands that when the issue of the N32 billion was presented to Tinubu, he gave the go-ahead for the party to remove him “legally”.

Uzodinma approached Adamu on Sunday and asked him to do the “needful” but he was unable to reach Omisore.

ABDULLAHI ADAMU FEARS IMPEACHMENT, RESIGNS AS APC CHAIRMAN

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from office, according to multiple reports Sunday night.

Adamu, former governor of Nasarawa state, was said to have resigned to save himself from being removed from office, the Western Post, close to the APC leadership reported

According to the paper, Adamu was forced to resign  over man issues which included his non-support for president Tinubu during campaign.

For the past two weeks, elements within the party have been calling for his resignation threatening to remove him at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting this week if he failed to resign.

He was forced to bow out after Imo State Governor and Chairman of All Progressive Congress Forum Home Uzodimma told him that, if he didn't resign, they will remove him at next Congress.

Those who are calling for Adamu’s resignation accused him of working against the President during the party’s presidential primaries, publicly supporting former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and failing to fully back Tinubu even after securing the party’s ticket.

Adamu was also accused of mismanaging the party's fund.

PRESIDENT TINUBU AFFIRMS AFRICA’S UNITY AND STRENGTH, REJECTS NOTION OF NEW SCRAMBLE FOR CONTINENT ...says violence and war will impede economic integration

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya reaffirmed Africa's unity and strength, while strongly rejecting the notion of a new scramble for Africa.

The President warned that past plundering and exploitation of the continent should remain in the past and never be repeated.

Speaking at the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) of the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the African Union Member-States, the President announced plans to strengthen the ECOWAS Standby Force to deter coups and combat terrorism in the sub-region.

The Nigerian leader, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, highlighted the progress made by ECOWAS in various sectors of its integration process, including trade, free movement of persons, investment promotion, infrastructure development, and security.

In his statement entitled "Address on Status of Regional Integration in ECOWAS," he emphasized the need for Africa to overcome its challenges and work towards a prosperous future, focusing on inclusive growth, good governance, and leveraging the opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Calling for good governance to ensure a prosperous future for Africa, free from the exploitations of the past, President Tinubu said: "As Africans, we forge ahead no matter the barriers thrust before us.

"The world we inhabit is often unkind and uncertain. Past history and current global difficulties argue against our future success.

''Lessons of the past few years teach us that the world economy can be disrupted in ways that halt progress and invite downturn. Our nations can suddenly find themselves in dire situations if we choose to be passive observers of our fate.

''Such passivity does not commend itself to me. I will not listen to it. Neither should any African. The challenges we face mean that governance will be difficult.

''They also mean that visionary good governance is necessary. Some observers assert a new scramble for Africa is afoot and it is much like the old scramble that plundered our continent.

''But, here and now,  let it be said to whomever the new scramblers might be that our continent may be old but our spirit is new.  And it is strong. The bad that took place in the past must stay there. It shall never be repeated.''

On peace, security, and stability, the Nigerian leader acknowledged the challenges faced by the sub-region, including terrorism and anti-constitutional changes in government.

''We sit here in meaningful discussion of vital economic matters. Yet, it will be impossible to bring full meaning to what we attempt unless we give due consideration to the instability and conflict that now scar many of our nations.

''The fullness of the integration we seek will elude us as long as several of our nations stand in the midst of violence and war.

''The trade and commerce we talk of today refers to valued goods and services that improve life. The trade and commerce these nations suffer is of destruction and disorder that takes lives and steals opportunity.

''We cannot integrate Africa and attain the prosperity we seek while our nearby brothers and sisters suffer in pain and anguish, they should not suffer.

''We must advance as one continent toward peace and prosperity.

''Otherwise, we risk the creation of two or more Africa, one a select group of nations moving steadily while the rest remain trapped in the age-old mire of poverty, conflict and lack of hope.

''It is very clear that in the area of peace, security, and stability, our region is confronted with the twin challenges of terrorism and reversal of democratic gains through undemocratic changes of Government.

''To address these challenges, the ECOWAS Authority, which I have the honour to chair, has given directive regarding the enhancement of the role of the ECOWAS Standby Force for deployment to fight terrorism and undemocratic changes in government.

''The Authority  has  also resolved to raise our own funding internally to finance the peace support operations in our community. Meanwhile, we have continued to monitor the transition programmes in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea, '' he said.

President Tinubu recounted that during the recently concluded ECOWAS Summit in Bissau, West African leaders resolved to maintain  engagement with Mali, Burkina Faso, to assiduously work towards the implementation of the 24-month transition calendars agreed with ECOWAS.

Nonetheless, to assist Burkina Faso and Mali in defending their territories from occupation by terrorists, he said, ECOWAS had decided to provide support for their security agencies.

He appealed to international partners to assist to provide necessary support that will ensure the restoration of democratic order in these Member-States.

On trade, President Tinubu said ECOWAS had achieved the Free Trade Area and was working on establishing the Customs Union and Common Market.

However, he expressed concern about the low level of intra-community trade among member-states, noting that the European Union remains the major trading partner for the region, followed by Asia, North America, and the rest of Africa.

Highlighting efforts made by ECOWAS to consolidate the gains of its trade liberalization scheme and support the implementation of the AfCFTA, the Nigerian leader said the ECOWAS Commission had been assisting member-states in the negotiations, ratification, and implementation of the AfCFTA.

He noted that 13 out of the 15 ECOWAS member states have ratified the agreement.

On free movement of persons, President Tinubu informed the meeting that ECOWAS had commenced action towards the implementation of the Harmonized Visa-Regime (ECOVISA) to facilitate the free movement of non-ECOWAS citizens.

On regional infrastructure development, President Tinubu reaffirmed ECOWAS’ focus on building regional infrastructure, including the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor Highway, to promote economic activities and integration.

''The Feasibility and Preliminary Design and Studies show a significant investment cost of nearly US$15 billion for the whole highway with an average economic rate of return of 15% per annum. In the same vein, preparations are under way for the development of the other corridors, namely the Abidjan-Praia-Dakar,'' he said.

Regarding intra-regional cooperation, the President informed the meeting that a joint border post between Nigeria and Cameroon was recently commissioned and handed over in November 2022 to the authorities of the two countries.

He described the project as a bridge between ECOWAS and ECCAS and a solid foundation for future cooperation and integration between the regions and ultimately the African continent.

President Tinubu also provided an update on the energy sector, expressing delight that several generation and inter-connection projects had been implemented within the region.

According to him, with the completion of the electric interconnection between Cote d’Ivoire-Liberia-Sierra Leone- Guinee (1,300 km) and between Senegal-The Gambia-Guinea Bissau and Guinea (1,700 km), all the 15 countries in West Africa have now been interconnected.

''The completion of the Information and Coordination Centre of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) will enable member-states to buy and sell electricity in the region as this centre will act as a regional system operator within the framework of the regional electricity market," he said.

The ECOWAS chairperson also provided updates on investment promotion, the ECOWAS Cybersecurity Agenda to combat cybercrime and improve cybersecurity capabilities in member states.

As the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu expressed his honour to participate, for the first time, in the Mid-Year Meeting of AU.

While commending AU for their efforts in strengthening collaboration and coordination between the continental and regional bodies, President Tinubu thanked the Government and people of the Republic of Kenya for hosting the meeting and providing excellent facilities for the participants.

DECLARATION OF STATE EMERGENCY ON FOOD SECURITY BY TINUBU EXPOSES BUHARI'S RICE PYRAMID DECEPTION __SHEHU SANNI

A socio-political commentator Shehu Sanni said the declaration of emergency on food security exposed the deception about those rice pyramids and the futility of closing the land borders.”

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had once declared a state of emergency on food.

This was a step to mitigate the sufferings experienced by Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidy.

Tinubu took the decision after wide consultation with stakeholders in the food and agriculture value chain, co-opting the Central Bank of Nigeria, Customs, Farmers Association, key financial experts, among others.

In his corroborative view, Shehu Sani said Nigeria can’t have food security with farmers being slaughtered by terrorists.

He lamented that with bandits forcing the farming communities to pay levies, the country can’t have food security.

Tweeting, Sani wrote: “You cannot have food security in a country where farmers are slaughtered by terrorists and farming communities are forced to pay levies to Bandits.

Presidential spokesman, Dele Alake, made this known while briefing State House correspondent on Thursday.

The directive was said to be in line with the Tinubu administration’s position on ensuring that the most vulnerable are supported.

Alake said President is not unmindful of the rising cost of food and its effect on the pocket of citizens.

As a youth leader within the party, your role is crucial in fostering unity, cooperation, and progress. It is essential to prioritize the greater interests of the party and work towards its growth and success. Unfortunately, we have observed actions from your end that go against these fundamental principles. Creating divisions, spreading rumours, or engaging in any form of destructive behaviour within the party is detrimental to our collective goals. Such actions not only undermine the party's integrity but also weaken our ability to present a united front against other forces. In essence, you are hindering the success of the PDP.

I strongly urge you to reconsider your current course of action and reflect upon the negative consequences it may have on the party and its members. It is essential to channel your energy and efforts towards constructive and inclusive activities that will foster unity, enhance communication, and strengthen the party's foundations. Accusations have been made, and it is vital that we address these unethical behaviours with utmost seriousness and professionalism through the principles of the party. While we understand that disagreements and differences of opinion are inevitable within any democratic setting, it is crucial that we handle these situations with maturity, respect, and a sincere commitment to the greater good. AJIKOBI YOUTHS LEADER REACTS TO DANIYAH'S STATEMENT, DESCRIBES IT AS BASELESS, GROUNDLESS, PAPER WEIGH CLAIM

The incumbent Youths Leader of Ajikobi Central ward Comrade AbdulHafeez Mannah has described People's Democratic Party State Youths Leader's claim as baseless, groundless and paper weight statement.

Comrade Mannah in a statement released to TROVE online MEDIA tutored Mr Mahmud Daniyah that no single amount recieved from the National level that was diverted to personal coffer.

He also explained Mr Daniyah is a rubber-stamp Youths Leader who has being in a confused situation, Comrade Mannah however reinstated their firm loyalty to the leadership of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki who has been Manning the State, Local as well as ward structure of the party with his personal money ever before and after election l.

Comrade Mannah also appealed to the general public not to be distracted as the issue has being handled by the leadership of the Party.

It is my pleasure to come out of a write up on the widespread allegation of 2023 election fund levy against our leader Dist Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki and some party stakeholders by the PDP state Executives particularly the state youth leader Alh Daniya from Kaima in his recently released video.

In his allegations, he mentioned that many of the state executives functions and responsibilities have been hijack by some stakeholders close to Dr Saraki and most importantly the fundamental questions is that our leader should account for the 2023 election fund recieved in kwara state

Different messages have went accross concerning the release video of the allegations

I want to assure the general public that the information release by the state youth leader is baseless and have no content, because no single amount recieved from the national level where diverted to any individual pocket rather spent on the party activities with the knowledge of the executives

We should all put this into our senses accusing a leader that owns a party in the state of how election money was spent, this is nothing but a lack of manners,  after all, you are in the system together with your executives but I was not surprised because in a recent time the news of PDP state executives plan to suspend our leader from the party reveal to the world and necessary action were brought up by Ajikobi CWC and some stakeholders to stop them

I want to used this avenue to plead to the general public to disregard any information release by the state youth leader, all campaign fund were released and utilized judiciously in the last election and no party function and activities was delegated to anybody except the party executives

However, My question as the ward youth leader to the state youth leader, does he perform his responsibility to the best of his ability since assumption of office, as leader of the entire youth in the state he as no single day involved in any youth activities rather perform any function in the last election.

He has been a rubberstamp leader that has nothing positive to offer the youth, we the ward youth leader, Local government, senatorial dont recognized him and his useless stand

ILORIN BORN ISLAMIC SCHOLAR BLASTS PROF WOLE SOYINKA

Wole Soyinka, a Nigerian playwright and Nobel laureate, wrote an open letter to the Emir of Ilorin over the cancellation of the Isese festival proposed by an Osun priestess, Omolara Olatunji, popularly known as Yeye Ajesikemi.

Speaking during an interview with Afrika Eyes, Imam Ismail Dare Olawuwo, said one of the factors contributing to the peaceful coexistence in Ilorin is the strong influence of Islamic teachings, which emphasize peace, unity, and respect for others.

According to him, the people of Ilorin, regardless of their religious affiliations, have imbibed these values, leading to a peaceful and harmonious society.

Ilorin is a city that has a long history of promoting social integration and peaceful coexistence.

The cleric, while reacting to the open letter written by Prof Soyinka, said the Nobel laureate who is an atheist does not have an inherent right to discuss religious tolerance.

Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu Gambari is the custodian of this city and the protector. Therefore, he has the moral right to send people to the acclaimed Osun priestess to cancel the event over the Isese festival that she plans to celebrate.

Religious tolerance is a fundamental principle that promotes peaceful coexistence and respect for diverse beliefs. No one said that Iya Osun should not practice her religion but she has known that where one right ends, another one right begins. She can worship anything she wants in her house but not outside, as the community is owned by the emirate.

Barrister Olawuwo said Soyinka as an elder statesman needs to approach discussions on religious tolerance with sensitivity, respect, and an understanding of the diverse perspectives and experiences of different religious communities.

COURT ORDERS OBASANJO, YAR'ADUA, JONATHAN, BUHARI GOVTS TO ACCOUNT FOR $5BN ABACHA LOOT

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, in a landmark judgment, has ordered the disclosure of the spending details of about USD$5 billion Abacha loot by the governments of former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.”

The court ordered the government of President Bola Tinubu to “disclose the exact amount of money stolen by General Sani Abacha from Nigeria, and the total amount of Abacha loot recovered and all agreements signed on same by the governments of former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Buhari.”

The judgment was delivered last week by Justice James Kolawole Omotosho following a Freedom of Information suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/407/2020, brought by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

In his judgment, Justice Omotosho held that, “In the final analysis, the application by SERAP is meritorious and the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance is hereby ordered to furnish SERAP with the full spending details of about $5bn Abacha loot within 7 days of this judgment.”

Justice Omotosho ordered the government to “disclose details of the projects executed with the Abacha loot, locations of any such projects and the names of companies and contractors that carried or carrying out the projects since the return of democracy in 1999 till date.”

Justice Omotosho also ordered the government to “disclose details of specific roles played by the World Bank and other partners in the execution of any projects funded with Abacha loot under the governments of former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Buhari.”

Justice Omotosho also stated that, “The excuse by the Minister of Finance is that the Ministry has searched its records and the details of the exact public funds stolen by Abacha and how the funds have been spent are not held by the Ministry. The excuse has no leg to stand in view of section 7 of the Freedom of Information Act.”

Justice Omotosho dismissed all the objections raised by the Federal Government and upheld SERAP’s arguments. Consequently, the court entered judgment in favour of SERAP against the Federal Government.

Justice Omotosho’s judgment, dated 3 July, 2023, read in part: “The failure of the Minister of Finance to write to SERAP informing it of where the said information exists or to transfer the request to public office who has custody of such information is fatal to their case under section 5 of the Freedom of Information Act.”

“The Ministry cannot use a blanket statement that it was not in possession of the said records of about $5bn Abacha loot sought by SERAP. The government failed to provide details of the projects executed with the money. It also failed to provide locations of the projects and the names of the companies and contractors that carried out or are carrying out the projects funded with the money.”

The Federal Government had filed a 14 paragraph Counter Affidavit deposed to by Abah Sunday, Litigation Officer in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation argued that SERAP’s suit is frivolous, as it has not shown that the government denied it the information it seeks.”

“The Federal Government has also stated that SERAP has not established sufficient interest in its application. The government urged the Court to dismiss the suit.”

“For the sake of emphasis, possession of locus standi has been the bane of the citizens’ advocates, in the public interest litigation, to query transparency and accountability in governance in Nigeria

In a democratic dispensation, such as in Nigeria, the citizens have been proclaimed the owners of sovereignty and mandates that place leaders in the saddle.”

“The requirement is a serious fracture of the citizens’ inalienable right to ventilate their grievances against poor governance vis-à-vis expenditure of public funds generated from their taxes.”

“The sacrosanct provision of Section 1(2) of the Freedom of Information Act, which has ostracised this disturbing requirement, has, admirably, remedied the harmful mischief appurtenant to it.”

“Clearly, section 1 gives a person the right to access any information from any public institution in Nigeria. SERAP is an organization registered in Nigeria and thus a juristic person. As a juristic person, SERAP need not show any specific interest in the spending details of about $5bn Abacha loot to be entitled to the same.”

ISESE FESTIVAL: EMIR OF ILORIN REPLIES SOYINKA

Emir of Ilorin  Ibrahim Sulu Gambari says Isese festival, a cultural ceremony held in the town, was cancelled “to prevent crisis”

According to NAN, the monarch described the decision as “proactiveness”, saying it “is necessary to sustain peaceful co-existence in the society”.

In a statement on Friday signed by AbdulAzeez Arowona, his spokesperson, Gambari responded to an open letter addressed to him by Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate.

The dispute began when Yeye Ajesikemi Omolara, a priestess, was said to have announced the commencement of this year’s Isese festival from July 22 to 24.

But members of the Majilisu Shabab li Ulamahu Muslim group, in a video, warned the priestess against holding the event.

The group had claimed the order came from the emir.

Reacting to the development, Soyinka described the decision to cancel the festival as “a crime against the cultural heritage of all humanity” and “an assault on civilised conduct”.

He said Nigeria’s constitution guarantees freedom of belief, adding that the cancellation will undermine the country’s progress.

In response to the Nobel laureate, Gambari said the decision was taken to avert situations that might lead to “reprisal attacks by sympathisers or promoters of such belief (Isese festival) in other parts of the country”.

He added that the priestess had lived “harmoniously” in the town for years “until she decided to go beyond her boundaries”.

“In order to set records straight, Professor Wole Soyinka tends to be economical with facts, forgetting that war is nobody’s want,” the statement said.

“As he decided to settle with a factor that is capable of causing chaos in the society, if not quickly averted.

“This is to prevent crisis and not waiting until it erupt because the cost of managing crises cannot be equated to the wisdom or courage required to prevent it.

“Such proactiveness is necessary in order to sustain peaceful co-existence in the society.

“It is therefore surprising to hear that the position of Professor Soyinka is identical to someone who does not consider what might transpire if the programme was hosted.

“It may result to issues which could also lead to reprisal attacks by sympathisers or promoters of such belief (Isese festival) in other parts of the country.

“There are many non-indigenes in Kwara who are serving and retired, including business owners who have vowed to move their families to the state due to the peace and harmony enjoyed therein.

“Yeye Ajesikemi also confirmed that she has been living harmoniously in Ilorin for many years, not until she decided to go beyond her boundaries.”

DOLLARS' VIDEO: KANO GOVT DROPS SUIT SEEKING TO STOP GANDUJE'S PROBE

Kano State Government has officially withdrawn its lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking to stop it from probing the immediate past Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje. The government’s decision was revealed in a letter addressed to Sanusi Musa, SAN, and submitted before the Federal High Court in Kano. The letter, dated July 4, 2023, was signed by Haruna Isa Dederi, Kano Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

In the letter, the Attorney General stated, “We write to notify you that Kano State Government and the Attorney General of Kano State wish to debrief you of the earlier instructions, given to you to handle the case NO: FHC/KN/71/2023 between Attorney General of Kano State and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).” He further instructed the legal counsel to refrain from taking any further steps in the case, including appearing in court or filing any additional processes.

The withdrawal of the suit comes after the Kano state government, under the previous administration led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, had issued a fiat instrument through the Ministry of Justice to restrain the EFCC from investigating the controversial dollar video. The video, which gained widespread attention, allegedly depicted Governor Ganduje accepting bribes in dollars. The EFCC had initiated an investigation into the matter, but the state government sought to prevent any further inquiries or interrogations by filing the initial lawsuit.

This latest development raises questions about the future of the investigation and the potential implications for Governor Ganduje. However, the reasons behind the withdrawal of the lawsuit have not been explicitly stated by the Kano State Government or the Attorney General. The decision to withdraw the suit has sparked speculation and garnered public attention, with citizens and various stakeholders eager to understand the motives behind the Kano State Government’s change of position.

As of now, the EFCC has not released an official statement in response to the withdrawal of the lawsuit.

POPULATION CENSUS: PRESIDENT TINUBU PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR NPC, CALLS FOR DATA INTEGRITY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday in Abuja expressed his unwavering support for the National Population Commission (NPC) to conduct an accurate Population and Housing Census in the country.
He, however, emphasized the need for the commission to be prudent in their assignment and work towards producing census data that would be credible and reliable.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja after receiving a briefing from NPC Chairman, Nasir Isa Kwarra, the President expressed concern over the delay in conducting another enumeration in the country since the last exercise done in 2006.
He urged the NPC to view this delay as an opportunity to cash in on the advantages of the current electronic and digital age.

”It is disappointing that up until now we have not been able to conduct another enumeration of our people. I hope that this delay will be converted to a great opportunity in this electronic and digital age.
”The challenge is yours and I hope that during the demarcation you did, you would have noticed the migration of people to urban centers because of the extreme poverty and unemployment.

”Digitalizing the process will make your job easier and I don’t see why we don’t, by now, have a reliable database in Nigeria to identify ourselves and ascertain our numbers for planning purposes and in time of disaster.

”I have listened to you and we will support you. Accuracy and integrity of your data is very important to Nigerians and for our national economic development programmes.

”We will support you but you have to be prudent and be determined to make a name for yourself. Goodluck, ” the President said.

In his remarks, the NPC Chairman noted that the Commission was on the verge of conducting the final training for the Census before they were caught up with the transition programme for a new government and funding challenges, necessitating the postponement of the exercise by the immediate-past President.

He briefed the President on the Implementation Status of the 2023 Population and Housing Census, requesting the issuance of a proclamation for a new Census date later this year or early next year.

Kwarra also highlighted the funding challenges faced by the Commission, saying they were waiting on the President to support NPC and give the go-ahead for the conduct of the census.

He said the commission had demarcated the entire country, stating that only one or the two places were left and that this would be done soon.
Kwarra said the commission had also trained 60,000 instructors that would further train enumerators and supervisors.

In a paper titled “Implementation Status of the 2023 Population and Housing Census,” the NPC requested the release of the allocated N31 billion capital allocation, in the 2023 budget, for preparatory activities.

The commission put the total cost of the Census, after a methodology review, at N546.72 billion.
Kwarra also requested the President’s approval for an additional N225.2 billion to cover training and fieldwork allowances, retraining of trainers, and the conduct of a second-class Trial Census.

President Tinubu was also asked to approve and convene a stakeholders meeting with the organized private sector and foreign partners to galvanise funds for the Census.

Kwarra informed the President that Nigeria has developed a database that can be useful in national planning, infrastructure development, and revenue generation for the government.

”NPC having completed Mapping in March 2022, tested the market with the geospatial data by making it available to researchers at a ‘test price’ where it generated over N50 million through REMITA.

”To this end, with a full integrated spatial and statistical data, government geospatial policy and coordination, NPC can generate up to 14 billion dollars and further save a lot of resources for the nation through automation of economic planning by 2028,” he said.

BREAKING: FORENSIC ANALYSIS EXPOSES GANDUJE AS ANTI-GRAFT AGENCY REVEALS DOLLAR VIDEOS FINDINGS

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) says forensic analysis has confirmed that the dollar videos of ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje were not doctored.

In 2017, Daily Nigerian, an online publication, had released some videos of Ganduje allegedly collecting kickbacks from contractors.

But speaking at ‘A One Day Public Dialogue on Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano’, on Wednesday, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the agency, said the authenticity of the videos had been confirmed.

He said since the release of the footages, people have been challenging the commission under him to prove the innocence or otherwise of the former governor in the matter.

He added that his commission commenced investigation in 2018 but could not go far because Ganduje, who was governor at the time, had immunity.

BREAKING: COURT REVERSES EXPULSION OF TINUBU'S ALLY, CHIMAROKE NNAMANI, FROM PDP

The Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the expulsion of Chimaroke Nnamani, former Governor of Enugu State and an ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the grounds of alleged anti-party activities.

Justice James Omotosho, while delivering the judgement, emphasised that Nnamani had not been afforded a fair hearing in line with the PDP’s constitution.

The judge had it that according to Article 57 of the party’s constitution, only the National Executive Council (NEC) is empowered to convene a disciplinary committee, whereas the decision to expel Nnamani was made by the National Working Committee (NWC).

The judge further clarified that the PDP’s constitution stipulates that the NEC holds the authority to take disciplinary action against any erring member holding positions such as governor, deputy governor, or serving member of the National Assembly.

Nnamani, who previously represented Enugu East Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, lost his bid for re-election in the February 25 poll to Kelvin Chukwu, a candidate from the Labour Party.

The expulsion of the former senator by the PDP NWC took place during its 566th meeting on February 10, after haven been found guilty of allegations of engaging in anti-party activities by the party. Initially, Nnamani had been suspended on January 20 before eventually being expelled.

The allegations against Nnamani included campaigning for Senator Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), instead of supporting the PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Subsequently, Tinubu emerged victorious in the presidential election held on February 25 and was officially declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He assumed office as the President of Nigeria on May 29.
