BREAKING: FRESH TROUBLES FOR TINUBU AS COURT OKAYS CERTIFICATE FORGERY CASE

A court has permitted the Action Alliance (AA) to open its certificate forgery allegations suit against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Hearing in the matter could not go on as scheduled following an application by one Adekunle Omo-Aje and his group claiming leadership of the AA party and also insisting they did not engage any legal practitioner to institute the suit against Tinubu.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja had in August, fixed October 12 for commencement of hearing shortly after ordering parties to exchange their briefs of arguments in the case. However, at the next adjourned date, Omo-Aje and his faction had asked to be joined as a defendant in the suit filed by the AA.

But after listening to arguments in support and against the joinder application, the court declined to grant the request. Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in his ruling, dismissed the joinder application on the grounds that conditions precedent for such joinder to be granted were not placed before the court.
Amongst others, Justice Egwuatu held that Omo-Aje did not establish his claim as National Chairman of the AA and also did not disclose how his interest would be jeopardized if not joined as defendant in the suit.

Justice Egwuatu, while dismissing the joinder request, directed the plaintiff to open its case of certificate forgery allegations against Tinubu on Friday November 4, 2022.

The judge specifically ordered that witnesses in the suit must be brought before the court to enable it determine the suit within the time stipulated by law. AA had on June 21, approached the court for an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from including the name of the APC in the ballot of the 2023 presidential election.

The plaintiff in the suit is claiming that Tinubu forged his University of Chicago certificate he submitted in 1999 in aid of his qualification for the 1999 governorship election in Lagos State, which he won.

In a 16-paragraph statement on oath deposed by one Kalu Agu, the plaintiff submitted that “the third defendant is a person who is not qualified for election to the office of President of Nigeria on the grounds of alleged forgery”.

According to the deponent, the third defendant had provided false information and attached forged documents in his form CF 001 he submitted to INEC in 1999 in aid of his qualification for the governorship poll.
The deponent stated that the claim of Tinubu that he possesses Bsc degrees in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Chicago and Chicago State University in 1976 and 1979 respectively were false.

“The third defendant knew he did not possess all the educational qualifications he listed in the said INEC form,” he added.

The deponent further claimed that the matter of false information by Tinubu was once reported to the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State House of Assembly, wherein the latter set up a committee which in its report at page 2 said: “The Governor of Lagos State stated his evidence by admitting full responsibility for some of the needless errors being pinpointed in recent publications and which formed the basis of the allegations against him.”

The plaintiff contends that arising from the above, the third defendant is not qualified for election into the office of President of Nigeria.

The party therefore prayed the court to declare that the third defendant’s claim that he attended Government College, Ibadan and University of Chicago on his INEC Form CF 001 in 1999, which he presented to INEC, is false.

He also urged the court to further declare that the alleged false information on Tinubu’s INEC Form CF 001 about his BSc degree in Economics from the University of Chicago “is a forged certificate”.

The plaintiff said in view of Section 137(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution, the court should declare that the third defendant, “having in 1999 presented a forged certificate to INEC….is not qualified to contest for the office of president”.

“A declaration that by virtue of Sections 224, 23 and 24 of the 1999 Constitution and the Constitution of the APC, the office of the President of Nigeria is to be occupied by a man of integrity and impeccable character,” he said.

While the plaintiff prayed the court for an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from publishing the name of Tinubu as the candidate of the APC in the 2023 presidential election, the AA, prayed for another order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from listing the APC as a political party in the ballot for the 2023 presidential poll.

TERROR ALERT: NIGERIA MUST NOT BE ANOTHER AFGHANISTAN – Ohuabunwa

Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow terrorists to over run Nigeria as they did in Afghanistan two years ago.

Ohuabunwa who spoke exclusively with Vanguard in Umuahia, expressed worry over the heightened terror alerts issued by Western nations about possible terror attacks in Nigeria.

The former Leader ECOWAS Parliament said that the alerts should not be politicized but taken seriously considering the sophistry of the countries raising the alarms in intelligence gathering.

He urged the President as the Commander in Chief, to mobilize the security agencies to ensure that Abuja and other parts of the country are protected against any terror attack.

He noted that if the security agencies were properly equiped, they would be able to confront terrorists in any part of the country.

According to him, the current Inspector General of Police, IGP, Alkali Usman, has shown commitment to fighting criminality, and should be encouraged

The former Leader House of Representatives who said that “every effort had to be taken to ensure Abuja does not fall to terrorists”.

He expressed disappointment over the inability of the All Progressive Congress, APC-led Federal Government to fight insecurity which he said is nearly consuming Nigeria.

Senator Ohuabunwa who said that Nigeria should not be allowed to fall to terrorists, urged Nigerians to be vigilant and take nothing for granted.

Decrying the insecurity in Abia North, Ohuabunwa called on the Federal Government to rise up to its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

I WILL DEAL WITH TOUTS IF ELECTED LAGOS GOVERNOR – Jandor

The Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jandor has pledged to deal with touts if elected as Governor in 2023.

According to him, he would check all excesses of transport unions and motor park touts if he wins in 2023.

Speaking on Sunday evening at the formal presentation of the PDP governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, to indigenes of the state residing in Lagos State, Adediran said he was prepared to give residents of the state a new lease of life.

“We will ensure that any money collected as revenue in Lagos State is spent for the people of the state as against what is currently obtainable in the state.”

Adediran said that his administration would provide opportunity for peaceful co-existence between indigenes and non-indigenes in the state.

He said that efforts would be made to ensure that all residents of the state continue to live in peace and harmony under his government.

Meanwhile, the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria on Sunday said it would commence its proposed seven-day strike from Monday over alleged extortion and harassment from the motor park management and thugs popularly known as Agbero.

TWITTER MAY CHARGE $20 PER MONTH FOR VERIFICATION

Twitter’s new “Chief Twit” Elon Musk is reportedly considering making verification a Twitter Blue feature, while simultaneously quadrupling the subscription service’s cost. This would essentially mean charging users a monthly $20 fee to keep their blue tick verification badge.

Predictably, many users have indicated they’d rather just be unverified.

The new Musk Era of Twitter kicked off last week, with swift firings and a spike in slurs indicating significant changes for the company. Platformer first reported on Sunday that Twitter may soon require users to have a paid subscription to Twitter Blue in order to retain their verified status.

Twitter verification gives eligible accounts a little checkmark badge authenticating their identity to others, and currently only demands the psychic cost of being on the hellsite.

On top of this, The Verge reports that there are also plans to increase the price of a Twitter Blue subscription from its already elevated $4.99 monthly cost to a whopping $19.99 per month. That’s the same price as a premium Netflix subscription, but with markedly worse content.

Twitter’s proposed changes could allow those who aren’t verified to essentially purchase the coveted blue tick badge. Currently, Twitter only grants verified status to notable accounts from a “prominently recognized individual or brand.” If the change goes through, it’s probable that anyone who fulfils the other two criteria of being active on Twitter and confirming their identity will be able to get verified. This could potentially be useful in fighting disinformation and impersonation.

Unfortunately, the $19.99 per month blue tick fee takes a lot of shine off the appeal.
Once the Twitter’s new policy kicks in, users will have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue tick. It’s currently unclear what will happen to verified users in countries where Twitter Blue is unavailable, i.e. any country that isn’t the US, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. It’s also unclear whether Musk has actually thought this through.

Twitter Blue currently allows users to edit their tweets, upload videos in 1080p, and see what articles are being shared the most in their network. It also enables accounts to use an NFT as their profile picture, because if you’re paying for Twitter there is a non-zero chance you’re also into crypto.

I APPROVED NAIRA NOTES REDESIGN – BUHARI

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Sunday, voiced his support for the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria to launch new designs and replace high value Naira notes.

This was as he noted that the nation would gain a lot by the new initiative, especially its impact on illicit monies.

According to a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari spoke in a Hausa radio interview with the famous journalists Halilu Getso and Kamaluddeen Shawai to be aired Wednesday Morning on Tambari TV on Nilesat.

The statement is titled ‘CBN has my backing in replacing Naira notes, says President Buhari.’

“Buhari said reasons given to him by the CBN convinced him that the economy stood to benefit from reduction in inflation, currency counterfeiting and the excess cash in circulation.

“He said he did not consider the period of three months for the change to the new notes as being short,” the statement read.

The President added that ”People with illicit money buried under the soil will have a challenge with this but workers, businesses with legitimate incomes will face no difficulties at all.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria, on October 26, announced its decision to redesign new N200, N500 and N1000 notes by December 15, 2022.

According to the CBN, the existing notes would cease to be regarded as legal tender by January 31, 2023.

Explaining the development, CBN Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, lamented that 85 per cent of the currency in circulation is being hoarded by Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians to deposit their Naira notes, adding that the deposit fee would be waived for transactions below N150,000.

Emefiele added that the redesigning of Naira notes would help to curb counterfeit notes, as well as hamper ramson payment to terrorists and kidnappers.

In the interview, Buhari also addressed issues of food security and national security, among others.

MAKINDE PROMISES TO FOLLOW AFENIFERE ON 2023 PRESIDENCY

Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has hinted on the presidential candidate he would support amidst the fallout with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

He made a promise on Sunday to agree with the decision of the Yoruba social-cultural organization, Afenifere.

This is amidst reports that Afenifere is backing the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.

Makinde announced his stand in Akure, Ondo State capital when the former Governor of Lagos State visited the state to meet with the Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

Represented by his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said although they belong to different political parties, he is in support of the decision of the Afenifere and Yoruba race.

Speaking in Yoruba language, he said: “Since he became Governor of Oyo State, he never played down the interest of Yoruba land.

There was no time Baba called him that he didn’t respond. There was no event he is invited to, whether by Afenifere or any group in Yoruba land where Engineer Makinde doesn’t play a part.

Now, we are different by a political party but we are one by the tribe. For this reason, what he asked me to assure you is that in Yoruba land, whatever you have agreed to do, he is in support,” said Lawal while delivering Governor Makinde’s message at the gathering of political and Yoruba stakeholders.

I DARE YOU TO STOP ORTOM, OTHERS FROM CONTESTING – WIKE TELLS AYU

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has hit back at Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over his remarks against Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State

Ayu had made it clear he had the power to stop Ortom and others from contesting the 2023 elections.

“I have the powers to stop you and you will not go anywhere because I will insist that I must sign before you go anywhere,” Ayu had said.

But Wike, while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Sunday, said the PDP chairman lacks integrity, describing him as corrupt.

“I dare the National Chairman to stop any contestant if he has what it takes.

“It is in this country where you say a man is very corrupt and he is trying to talk,” Wike said.

Wike recalled how Ortom convinced other governors to allow Ayu to become party chairman against the resolution of the governors who had agreed that the National chairman should not come from a place where a PDP governor comes from.

He said: “The agreement by the governors was that no national chairman should come from where a PDP governor comes from but Ortom came, and he is a man we respect and that he wants to promote his people and let them be at the national politics, we said okay.

This is a man (Ayu) who never campaigned anywhere and now can tell you that if he wanted to stop the man who brought him, who guaranteed him. That’s the corruption we are talking about.

“He has now come into office, he has seen money, he has seen power and now can open his mouth to say if he wanted to stop Ortom he would have stopped him.

“He said he can also stop any contestant, look at him, maybe he’s hollow, he doesn’t know anything.

I dare him. If he’s National Chairman I dare him to stop any contestants if he has what it takes”.

Governor Wike also disclosed that he dealt with Ayu when he allegedly attempted to impose a governorship candidate in Rivers state.

The title” Yeruma of Okuta” Which means the “Eminent Child of the Kingdom” was conferred on Governor AbdulRahman following his multitudinous achievements in the state.

It would be recalled Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq's brother and legal icon Dr Alimi AbdulRasaq was turned as Mutawalle of Ilorin in recognition of his accomplishments in law, education and participation in the banking industry, are testaments to the quality of AbdulRazaq.

He follows in succession to his late father, Alhaji AGF AbdulRazaq (SAN), as the first Mutawalle of Ilorin

2023: TROUBLE AHEAD FOR WIKE, ORTOM, IKPEAZU, UGWUANYI, MAKINDE

When Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State announced last week that he had authorised the removal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s photograph from the party’s campaign materials and posters in the state, top stakeholders concluded that the lingering crisis in the party has reached a point of no return.

Wike is the arrowhead of a group, which comprises some state governors within the PDP, calling for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, in order to achieve some geo-political balance in the party since he lost the VP slot to his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa, who sabotaged the South’s bid for the presidential ticket of the main opposition party.

The controversial Rivers State Governor gave the directive during the inauguration of the state’s campaign committee at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
In a related development, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, a Wike supporter, also hit at Atiku for what he described as his open support for the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, alleged by the governor to be the sponsor of acts of terrorism against his state.

Ortom demanded an apology from Atiku, warning that failure on the part of the PDP presidential flagbearer to do so, “we would vote according to the elections in 2023,” a subtle threat against Atiku’s presidential bid.

The anonymous source, who said the party saw through Wike’s aim to frustrate the take-off of its campaigns, hinted that with the River State governor’s recent move, the party may have to ignore him and move ahead with electioneering.

But the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunaba, is cautious in his assessment of the development. “Wike is and still remains our party man. Reconciliation is an internal process and we are still at it. Twenty-four hours is a lifetime in politics.”

He declined to be drawn into the prevailing view within the party that Wike and his group also face a dilemma that makes their demands not to be taken too seriously.

The other four state governors who have ganged up with Wike against the party, namely Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Benue, Enugu and Abia counterparts, respectively, Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu are all in the same political circumstances.

Apart from Mr. Makinde, who is running for a second term in office, the rest are senatorial candidates on the platform of the PDP, meaning that there is a limit to which they can make their inter-party demand without offending the sensibilities of the stakeholders in their respective states.

Makinde was a relatively unknown politician until 2019 when he emerged Governor of Oyo State on the platform of the PDP. His emergence was fortuitous, owing to Atiku’s performance in the presidential election of that year, which he won in the state.

Capitalising on this victory, former members of the party, who had defected and picked tickets of rival parties, got together to re-establish control of the state’s political structure. Led by former governor Alao Akala, the aggrieved politicians agreed to sink their differences and support Makinde’s candidacy on the platform of the PDP. He won the election.

Staring at the governor in the face now is a possible replay of this scenario, if he works against his party to spite its presidential candidate.

How? If he were to campaign for another party’s presidential candidate in the hope that he would be free from a possible repercussion because his (governorship) election comes up in March, 2023. Past experience, also drawn from the state, proves this strategy to be a dangerous one. That was in 2007.

Rashidi Ladoja, governor of the state, was removed from office in 2006. But he got reinstated through a court judgment. By that time, Alao-Akala, his deputy, who had held forth while he fought his removal at the court, had been chosen as the governorship candidate of the party for the 2007 polls.

Vexed by this development, Ladoja sought his pound of flesh. He entered into an alliance with the governorship candidate of the then All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Abiola Ajimobi. He directed his supporters in Ibadan to vote for Ajimobi as governor and for the PDP candidates at the House of Assembly as well as the House of Representatives.

Unfortunately, many of the voters who had been sensitised and mobilised with the symbol of ANPP, which is maize, voted for the symbol all the way. Majority of the voters who were illiterates could not afford the luxury of voting for one symbol and then looking for another on the same ballot paper. And so, the PDP lost all the 11 House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats available for Ibadan to the ANPP.

The lesson is that if another party, other than the PDP, were to emerge victorious in Oyo State at the presidential poll in a similar manner, history may repeat itself, particularly when either of the two major parties, PDP and APC, have alternated power in the state. This possibility, THEWILL investigation shows, will put pressure on Makinde to bestir himself and deliver the state to his party.

For Governors Ortom, Ugwuanyi and Ikpeazu, who are senatorial aspirants on the platform of the PDP, their election as National Assembly members will take place on the same day as the presidential candidates on February 25, 2023. It is not their faces but the logo of the party that will be on the ballot.

For Ikpeazu and Ugwanyi of Abia and Enugu States, respectively, the challenge is stark. Both states have been controlled by the same party, the PDP, for the past 22 years with vested interests and privileges that run to the roots of communities there.

In consideration of this reality, these governors agreed to name big wigs from the state to participate in the Presidential Campaign Council of the party. In fact, women groups recently stormed the Governor’s Lodge in Enugu to remind Ugwuanyi that “Enugu is a PDP state.”

The PDP Chairman in Enugu State, Chief Augustine Nnamani, failed to respond to a request for his reaction. So did his Abia State counterpart, Hon Asiforo Okere.

But an aide to Nnamani confided in THEWILL saying that “nobody would want to speak on this matter for fear of offending the powers that be.”

For Ortom, the challenge is tough and hard. All the key PDP stalwarts are distributed evenly in the three senatorial zones in the state. Former Governor, Gabriel Suswan, comes from Zone A; ex-President of the Senate, David Mark and former Internal Affairs Minister, Abba Moro, come from Zone C, while Ortom and party National Chairman, Ayu, come from Zone B

Attempts to get the reaction of the acting party Chairman in the state, Isaac Mfo, proved abortive as he would not answer calls put to his phone. But a notable party official said, “Any anti-PDP sentiment will not fly in this state,” but expressed the hope that the recent disagreement between the governor and Atiku has the “possibility of reconciliation.”

Ambassador Desmond Akawo, Rivers State Chairman, declined several calls put through to his phone. So did Kelvin Ebri, the Media Assistant to Wike.

But the spokesman of the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Council in Rivers State, Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, debunked claims by Wike that Atiku failed to contact him for names to represent the state on the PPC.

He insisted that Wike and the state Chairman of the party were informed about the composition of the PPC.

Nwibubasa, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation under Wike’s administration, said on Friday that the governor was pursuing a personal vendetta against the PDP since he lost out in the party’s presidential primary election.

According to him, “The governor’s statement is misleading and there is no truth in the allegations he has levelled against the PDP at the national level.

“His statement is completely misleading and we are advising the Rivers people to take notice of this that this is a product of a personal vendetta by the governor having lost out of the PDP presidential primaries.

“It has nothing to do with the PDP at the national level. We also understand that the governor has been pushing Rivers people in the direction of his own selfish interest.

When the people know the truth, they will align with the truth and that is why we are speaking up. Rivers is a PDP state and whoever wants to push us from the PDP to any other party is an enemy of the state.

“I can tell you that even some of the people you said are supporters of the governor are not. They may be his supporters publicly, but in their minds, they are all going to work for the PDP eventually.

“But for fear of the governor and because they hold positions right now in Rivers State, they are likely to be telling you, we’re with Wike. I can tell you that no one is with Wike.”

The reason the Wike group cannot openly say what party or candidate they would support is also part of the dilemma that they are facing. The Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, may be the face of the party and the movement, “Obidient” attached to it, but the party has the same leadership structure as the PDP. Its candidate, Obi; DG of Campaign, Dr Doyin Okupe and National Chairman, Julius Abure, are all from the South. Open declaration of support for the LP candidate would tag the Wike company as hypocritical. On the other hand, APC’s same faith ticket still being poorly received by a wide segment of the citizenry would paint them in bad light in the country where religion is one of the most potent currency driving politics.

Reacting to these developments, presidential spokesperson for Atiku, Charles Aniagwu, said the leadership of the party is still “interested in pursuing a resolution of the differences in the party and in the course of time, Governor Wike and other governors with him, will realise the need for party leaders and members to work together.”

He thinks the current crisis in the party will be resolved in the “not too distant future,” because “the leadership of the party, led by the presidential candidate, has seen the need to move in the same direction. So the issues will be resolved.”

Ologunaba dwelt further on ongoing efforts to address the lingering crisis, but denied that there was any time or any view that Governor Wike and his group would be ignored or sidelined in any way.

He said, “Negotiation is not a hundred metres dash. The party has the internal mechanism to resolve the differences in the party, but I cannot say whether it will happen tomorrow. Beyond this, all the layers in the party are on the same page on this matter.

It was also gathered exclusively that there is a supremacy battle ongoing between LP leaders and the “Obidient Movement.” This may complicate the stand of the Wike group should the brewing crisis develop into a major crisis and weaken the party as a strong contender in the 2023 presidential election. It would leave the APC and its rival PDP as major contenders in the upcoming poll. Traditional zones of interest across the country may be reset for both parties by the exit of LP, leaving the majors too big to be challenged by dissenters.

EXTORTION: SEVEN-DAYS BOYCOTT BEGINS MONDAY, LAGOS DRIVERS INSIST

The leadership of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria has reiterated the commitment of its members to embarking on a seven-day boycott of Lagos roads, beginning from Monday, October 31, 2022, over the alleged extortion by the motor parks and garages management in the state.

JDWAN, noting that having met with the Lagos State Government representatives, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos Ministry of Transportation, Abdulhafiz Toriola, and the motor park management liaison officer, AIG Hakeem Odumosu (retd.), in the company of its legal adviser, Ayo Ademiluyi, on Friday, there has not been any concrete response to its demands.

The Lagos State Government has since made no concrete response to JDWAN demands, rather, their representatives only asked for another letter to be submitted on Monday, which is regarded as a joke on our part, having released a press statement with concise demands. We also honoured the demand to deliver copies of the letter to the Lagos State Government, the State Security Service, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, and Commissioner for Transport

The retired AIG also expressly said they couldn’t get rid of bus stop extortionists because they were working for the state government. He also suggested that the chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, could organise thugs to attack us and we would be blamed or credited for the violence – all in a failed fear-mongering tactics. Also, the Assistant to the transport commissioner threatened to arrest us and our lawyer while in their office,” JDWAN said in a statement signed by its National Leader, Akintade Abiodun, on Sunday.

JDWAN claimed that the alleged statement of threat by CP Odumosu that MC Oluomo could attack its members, “is already happening through one Sile Sekoni (aka burger) of Badagry Roundabout Motor Park Management branch, Jafo (Oniba of Iba) of the caretaker committee, Iba branch, Seyi Bamgbose (known as student) of Iyana Iba caretaker committee branch, who threatened to beat and kill drivers on Monday.”

Lagosians must be aware that if anything happens to our drivers, the persons named above should be held responsible,” the national leader said

Citing legal backing, JDWAN said, “It is pertinent to note that there is an existing restraining court order granted by Justice P.O Lifu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, against the Lagos State Government and all transport agencies, stopping them from ticketing, or collecting bus stop levies, motor park levies, dues and any form of extortion from commercial drivers.”

It cited the case to be: Suit no: FHC/L/CS/224/2022 between applicant and lawyer, olukoya ogungbeje, Transport Union Society of Nigeria and respondents, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, MC Oluomo, Mohammed Musa, Lawal Yusuf, Lagos State Government, the state Attorney General, Inspector General of Police, and the Director-General of the SSS.”

SACK CBN GOVERNOR, GODWIN EMEFIELE NOW” – PRIMATE Ayodele WARNS BUHARI

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the governor of the central bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

This is in reaction to Nigeria’s economic woes and the recently announced plans to redesign some denominations of the Nigerian currency by the CBN.

While addressing his congregation during a live service a few hours ago, Primate Ayodele revealed that changing the current will add no value to the country but will amount to a total waste of resources.

He made it known that the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele and his team are in serious confusion and should be relieved of their duties.

Primate Ayodele stated that the president has all the reasons to sack the CBN governor because he is clearly not performing, while noting that Nigeria cannot get out of these economic woes in the next six years.

‘’CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele should be sacked, he can’t give a solution to the economy of Nigeria. The country will have more economic hardship and our naira will further be devalued. He doesn’t have the idea of the economy, he is fed up already. We can’t come out of these woes for the next six years. Former president, Goodluck Jonathan sacked Sanusi as CBN governor when he wasn’t performing, what’s stopping the sack of Emefiele because he is clearly not performing.’’.

Continuing, Primate Ayodele explained that designing of the current doesn’t stop terrorism or insecurity. He added that those incharge should seek divine intervention because they are totally confused.

‘’The money design solves nothing in the economy, either you change it or not, it doesn’t stop terrorism, kidnapping, insecurity, it’s just mere waste of money. These people are not seeing anything, those incharge are confused, we need divine intervention so we can get result.’’

Furthermore, Primate Ayodele urged Nigerians to kick against every plan to drop BVAS in the coming general election because it is the only way to prevent rigging.

‘’Nigeria should protest if BVAS is nullified for the election, the only way to prevent rigging is by Using BVAS.’’

KWARA BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF BILINGUAL SCHOOL, PARTNERS STAKEHOLDERS

The Kwara State Government has begun the construction of a bilingual secondary school in the Share community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, where students will learn English and Arabic languages.
The project, which is estimated to cost about a N1billion, was brought to the state through a robust partnership among three parties; the Kwara government, through the state Universal Basic Education Board, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Kwara House of Assembly, through the member representing Share/Oke-ode constituency, Mr. Owolabi Rasaq.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Share, Owolabi said it took them at least six months to secure the school contract for the state.
He acknowledged that the state government, through SUBEB, played an excellent role to achieve the desired result, as he applauded the governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his support at all times and for leading by example.
He acknowledged that the state government, through SUBEB, played an excellent role to achieve the desired result, as he applauded the governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his support at all times and for leading by example.

PDP CRISIS: I CAN STOP ORTOM, OTHERS FROM REALIZING THEIR AMBITION – IYORCHIA AYU

As the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deepens, the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, has said he would have stopped the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and those calling for his resignation from realizing their ambition.

Ayu explained that he opted against such a step to avoid cracks in the PDP.

The PDP National Chairman spoke while addressing his followers at his country home in Gboko on Friday.

Ortom and five other PDP governors had called for Ayu’s resignation after Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.

The governors had said a particular zone couldn’t produce PDP’s National Chairman and presidential candidate

But, the PDP crisis which had split the party in Benue, is threatening the senatorial ambition of the governor, with Ayu’s kinsmen in the Jemgbah axis accusing Ortom of teaming up with others to pull down their son from his exalted office.

However, Ayu described himself as a father, hence won’t stop those calling for his resignation from contesting for an elective position on the PDP’s platform in an attempt for vengeance.

According to Ayu: “I have been silent over all the things you are hearing against me because I don’t want any crack in the party I belong to in my State, I have the power to say ‘you and you will not go anywhere’ because I will insist that I must sign before you go anywhere.

But I have signed for all candidates produced by the PDP to go ahead in their dreams, whether I like it or not, I signed.

“So I was doing that believing that I cannot shoot myself in the leg.”

ALL APC WARD CHAIRMEN IN OWODE-ONIRE Onire REAFFIRM SUPPORT FOR RUKAYAT SHITTU _Says HER CANDIDATURE IS SACROSANCT AND IRREVERSIBLEi_

_We don't support the manipulation of judgment_

_We resolve on appeal_

All the 9 ward chairmen of ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) within Owode Onire state constituency have declared that the candidature of sensational journalist turn-politician, Rukayat Shittu is sacrosanct and irreversible.

The chairmen also stated that any backdoor attempt to hijack the collective resolution of the people will be an effort in futility.
While reacting to a high court judgment that faulted the choice of Rukayat as the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), the chairman of the chairmen, Mahmud Issa said that the high court is an inferior court and its decision doesn't reflect what transpired at the primaries, neither does it reflect the wishes of the people.

According to the Okewuru/Yowere II Chairman, Mallam Moshood who also spoke at the meeting said, “We are not unaware of the machinations of those who think they can manipulate the legal system to steal a victory against the people, but we know that their efforts will amount to waste and it shall be an exercise in futility.

"For us in Owode Onire, the mandate given to Rukayat Shittu is sacrosanct and irreversible and we declare our total support for her. He said.
“Rukayat candidature has been attracting goodwill from State, National, and International networks to Owode Onire Constituency, indicating that a good time is coming for Asa and that quality representation and a brighter future await the youths at large and we affirm our total and unflinching support for her candidature as earlier chosen by our people,” The Chairmen said.

ABDULRASAQ EXTENDS HIS MIDAS TOUCH TO COLLEGE OF NURSING, OKE-ODE, AS IT COMMENCES BSC NURSING PROGRAMME

The progressive trajectory across Kwara State owned teritiary institutions is bringing positive turn around to the State College of Nursing in Oke-Ode, situated in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State depicts Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's policy of inclusive, deliberate and strategic investment in the education sector.

The College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, had attracted positive development including improved staff welfare and infrastructure, as well as expansion of academic activities in the last three years.

From available records, the College has received necessary support towards getting accreditation of courses and upgrade of the school to include Midwifery, further shows Governor AbdulRazaq's commitment and responsiveness to the yearnings of stakeholders and Oke-Ode, the host community.

The governor recently  released the sum of N100 Million for the completion of Female Hostel at the School of Nursing, Oke-Ode, in order to make learning conducive for the students.

Kwara State Government recently appointed Alhaji Quadri Olarewaju as the substantive Provost of the institution. The decision which was welcomed with cheers by stakeholders as it was adjudged as purely merit-based in line with Mallam AbdulRazaq administration's transparency and quality assurance mechanism.

The new Provost, Alh. Olarewaju, a native of Oko-Ode holds Higher National Diploma in Public Administration and later bagged his General Nursing at the Kwara State School of Nursing, Ilorin. He also earned the degree of Bachelor of Nursing Science at the National Open University, before he proceeded to Lincoln University College, Malaysia for the Master's of Science in Nursing.

The new provost of College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, is well respected in the field due to his over three decades of stainless career as H.O.D Behavioural Science Department, School of Nursing, Ilorin, Vice Principal of the College and later Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, School of Nursing, Ilorin Chapter.

Interestingly, the exceptional and education-friendly Governor is also taking steps to ensure that the institution gets accreditation and re-accreditation of courses with a promise to release N80 Million for the exercise.

This would not only give the College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, an improved facelift and provide the needed facilities for the accreditation which include the library, books, demonstration equipment, medical equipment and furnitures in different units. However, with such progressive moves, it is believed that the College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, will be rescued from delisting and de-accreditation.

Another cheering news for Kwarans is that Kwara State College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, would be joining the league of degree awarding institutions like its counterpart in Ilorin in affiliation with Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

By the next academic session, the College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, will be offering degree programmes in Nursing Science, Diploma in Basic Nursing and ICT and Diploma in Basic Midwifery.

It is, however, worthy to note that only Kwara and Oyo States Colleges of Nursing are given the opportunity to run the Bsc Nursing programme by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. The undisputable fact is that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made it possible for Kwara State amidst paucity of funds.

Under the present administration, the College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, like other state-owned higher institutions, has adequate manpower to impart knowledge in students and produce quality graduates to support the ongoing giant strides in the health sector.

The foresight of Governor AbdulRazaq in appointing a competent and capable hand as Commissioner for Teritiary Education also made his investment in the education sector to yield desired results across board.

APC GOVERNOR BECOMES LECTURER

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has taught the Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship participants key concepts of governance and economy.

The governor held a workshop that took the Fellows through a discourse on McKinsey’s 7-S Framework, a powerful tool and model for Organizational Planning, Analysis, and Diagnosis.

Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship (KIF) is a one-year non-partisan leadership training programme for young Nigerians between the age of 25-35 years.

The one-year Fellowship aims to create a network of high-potential young Nigerians who are expected to rise to top leadership positions in the public and private sectors of the country.

The governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, said that the northern governors were supporting Bola Tinubu because of the respect they have for honour, equity and justice

Tinubu, who is the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), shared the same political party with the governor. El-Rufai added that their decision to support the power shift to the south is premised on the fact that both Sir Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa would do the same thing if they were alive.

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu, Atiku, and Peter Obi have been unveiling their plans for the country in their bid to convince Nigerians to consider them the best.

The northern leaders under the Arewa joint committee had given them platforms to hear their plans for the region in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The host governor, Nasir El-Rufai, joined the verbal attacks the presidential candidates have engaged in his bid to market his party's presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

PAUL SCHOLES DEBUNKS CRISTIANO RONALDO AND BRUNO FERNANDES THEORY AMID MAN UTD FEARS

Paul Scholes has appeared to challenge the theory that Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes cannot play effectively together for Manchester United following their impressive linkup in midweek

Cristiano Ronaldo quickly re-established himself as Manchester United's main man after returning to the club last summer - a mantle previously held by Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes had been United's talisman pretty much ever since he arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon back in January 2020. But the Portuguese midfielder's form - and influence - has dropped significantly since he was joined in Manchester by his compatriot.

While it's more than likely just a coincidence that Fernandes has faltered since Ronaldo returned to the club, that hasn't stopped some people from coining the theory that the duo are incapable of playing effectively together. However, United icon Paul Scholes has debunked that theory by highlighting how the pair combined to put Sheriff Tiraspol to the sword in midweek.

Ronaldo, who returned to the squad after being left out of the match against Chelsea after storming out of Old Trafford last week, got on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win with his 701st club-career goal - and it was Fernandes who teed up the veteran striker.

Highlighting the link-up, Scholes told BT Sport: "He [Ronaldo] had plenty of chances and created a lot for himself. Eventually his goal came. It is a fantastic ball from Bruno but we all felt his goal was coming after having so many chances. He missed a chance earlier and booted the ball so far away because he was frustrated that he could not get that goal, but to react to the header for his goal, that is a real centre-forward’s goal and something maybe Marcus [Rashford] could learn from him."

Although Scholes highlighted a positive moment, others have questioned the relationship between Fernandes and Ronaldo on the pitch; particularly as the former has struggled to emulate the feats he previously achieved in a Manchester United shirt.

FINANCE MINISTER DISSOCIATES SELF FROM NAIRA REDESIGN POLICY

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning , Zainab Ahmed, has dissociated herself from the Naira redesign policy fixed for December 15, 2022 by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Minister, who commented on the policy in response to question raised by Senators during the 2023 budget defence session she had with the Senate Committee on Finance, chaired by Senator Solomon Olamilekan, warned the CBN of consequences that may arise from the policy.

The Senate had told the Finance Minister that barely two days after announcement of the policy by the CBN, the negative effect was already being experienced in the country’s forex.

The Senate noted that just two days after announcement of the policy, value of the Naira to a US dollar has risen from N740 to N788 due to rush in exchange of stashed Naira Notes for foreign currencies, particularly the dollar.

The senators added that the policy may be a well-conceived one, but the timing, going by realities on the ground, is very wrong as the naira may fall to as low as N1,000 to a US dollar before January 31, 2023 fixed for full implementation of the policy.

In her response, Ahmed said she and her Ministry were not aware of the policy but only heard of it from the media.

The world’s richest man saw his $44 billion bid to buy the company concluded late Thursday after months of uncertainty and speculation

I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

Tesla chief Musk has indicated he would lift Trump’s Twitter ban, imposed in the wake of the 2021 assault on the US Capitol that the republican leader was accused of inciting.

ATIKU ARRIVES US FOR CAMPAIGN

The former vice-president was welcomed by the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Dino Melaye, Phrank Shuaibu, amongst other aides.

ATIKU’s TRAVEL TO US EXTRAVAGANT — SOWORE

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), on Friday, tackled his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for embarking on what he described as a wasteful travel to the United States.

Atiku had alongside some key members of his campaign council jetted out of the country to advance his campaigns ahead of 2023 elections.

It was reported that the former Vice President would be engaging with Nigerians in diaspora as well as with PDP members in North America.

The United States Chamber of Commerce had also invited the PDP presidential flag bearer to a bilateral trade dialogue with the U.S.-Africa Business Centre scheduled for November 1.

Sowore, who reacted to the development on his Twitter handle, alleged that Atiku’s travel resulted from his past corrupt and money laundering history with the United States.

He mocked Nigerians celebrating Atiku’s consistent to the foreign country.

The tweet read: “Whereas it cost average Nigerians less than $2k to travel to the US, @atiku must consult with lobbyists, lawyers, immigration expats and probably have to wear an ankle bracelet in order to visit the US because of his past corrupt and money laundering history with the US

This doesn’t come cheap. The reason they celebrate his perennial costly visit to the US.

ADEBOYE VISITS BORNO, SAYS ‘God WANTS ME TO STEPS ON THIS LAND

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says prayer remains the best option for peace in Nigeria and ending the Bokoharam insurgency in the North East.

Adebayo made this known when he paid a courtesy visit to the Borno deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, at the Government House, Maiduguri, on Thursday.

Adeboye said he arrived in the state on Wednesday and led worshippers “to seek the face of God over the state of security and other challenges facing the country.

“A combination of physical and spiritual battle had become necessary to end the menace.”

Adeboye said that “spiritual” intervention was needed side by side the current anti-terrorism efforts in order to defeat Boko Haram and other extremist groups threatening Nigeria’s peace and security.

There are problems that you cannot solve with just human ability, it takes God to get some of these bandits to get to surrender.

“Because even if you offer them everything, some of them may still turn their back and go back to what they were initially doing.

“We have come to pray on the land. My congregation and I have been praying. I believe God wants me to step on the land and cry and pray for the land and we have been praying since wednesday" He said

Adeboye explained that Maiduguri was the 16th place where his congregation held prayers.

“We went around the world. The church was in 196 locations globally. Sir, I thank the Almighty God for this meeting as this is the first time in my life of visiting Maiduguri. I have had always wanted to come long before now but somehow it has not been possible

My wife and I and some of our officials have come here and seen for ourselves that the governor and his wonderful government have been doing a lot under very difficult situations.

We believe that if things had been easier this government could have done a lot more for the people. In our own little corner at the headquarters in Lagos, we have tried whatever little bit we could to show the government that we are particularly interested in Borno state,” Adeboye said.

Enumerating some of his church’s interventions, the RCCG leader said, “We built a little primary school, a skills acquisition and vocational training center where different trades like shoe making, sewing and other trades are being learnt

We also built accommodation for some of the displaced families and also contributed to the hospitals by bringing machines for kidney dialysis, but much more than that, we have been praying.

We have been praying because before these troublemakers came, Borno was one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. I remember in those days, anyone could go to anywhere here at anytime of the day and night.”

Adeboye noted that the state was known for peace.

I was particularly touched when the Boko Haram crisis erupted. There are problems that you cannot solve with just human ability, it takes God’s intervention. The welcome we got in Borno is genuine. Please, express my love and well wishes to our beloved government,” he added.

NAIRA REDESIGN: EFCC TO CLAMPDOWN ON CURRENCY SPECULATORS, BDCs

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned currency speculators and Bureau de Change (BDC) operators not to undermine the move by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to redesign and reissue higher denominations of the Naira.

EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa in a statement commended the move by the apex bank, saying it is “a well-considered and timely response” to the challenges of currency management in the country.

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele said the apex bank will issue redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 notes, effective December 15, 2022.

Commenting on the development, Bawa said, “The EFCC, the CBN and some other regulators in the financial sector have worked closely in the recent past to determine how best to stabilize the country’s monetary policy environment. It is heart-warming that the CBN has demonstrated courage in taking this bold decision which I believe will bring sanity to the currency management situation in Nigeria.”

He called on operators in the Nigerian financial services sector, especially deposit money banks and BDC operators to work within the guidelines provided by the CBN to ensure seamless withdrawal of the old currency.

The EFCC boss warned that the anti-graft commission will monitor the process and charged banks to be alive to their reporting obligations and not assist unscrupulous customers in laundering suspected proceeds of crimes through their system.

Bawa said the CBN’s move is in tandem with the objectives of the Money Laundering Prevention Prohibition Act 2022, which criminalises the conduct of cash transactions above a certain threshold.

Section 2 (1) of the Money Laundering Act 2022 states: “No person or body corporate shall, except in a transaction through a financial institution, make or accept cash payment of a sum exceeding— (a) N5,000,000 or its equivalent, in the case of an individual ; or (b) N10,000,000 or its equivalent, in the case of a body corporate.”

“It is therefore pertinent to issue this stern warning to Bureau de Change operators to be wary of currency hoarders who would attempt to seize this opportunity to offload the currencies they had illegally stashed away.”

He said the Commission will spare no effort to bring to book any financial services operator who runs afoul of extant laws and regulations.

40% Of NEWLY REGISTERED VOTERS ARE STUDENTS – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission says 40% of newly registered voters are students.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday also said 76.5 percent of newly registered voters are young people.

Yakubu spoke at Third Quarterly Meeting with political parties for the year 2022 held at the INEC Conference Room in Abuja.

According to him, 9,518,188 new voters have been added to the existing register of 84,004,084 voters and preliminary register of voters in Nigeria now stands at 93,522,272.

He said, “At the end of the exercise, 12,298,944 Nigerians successfully completed the registration as new voters. All along, we have repeatedly assured Nigerians that our process of cleaning up the register is robust.

After a rigorous cleaning-up of the data using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), a total of 2,780,756 (22.6%) were identified as ineligible registrants and invalidated from the record, among them double/multiple registrants, underaged persons and outright fake registrations that fail to meet our business rules

Consequently, the number of valid registrations (post-ABIS) is 9,518,188.

“In terms of demographic distribution, 7.2 million new voters or 76.5% are young people between 18-34 years while there is a slightly higher number of female (4.8 million or 50.82%) than male (4.6 million or 49.18%) voters.

In terms of occupation, 3.8 million (40.8%) are students. Hard copies giving the full details of the distribution of the new voters are included in your folders for this meeting. The soft copy has already been uploaded to the Commission’s website and social media platforms

CBN TO REDESIGN N200, N500 AND N1,000 NOTES

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday said it will redesign the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this during a special press briefing in Abuja.  The new design and issues will be effective from December 15, 2022.

The action was taken in order to take control of the currency in circulation, according to the CBN boss.

The apex bank, Emefiele stated, has secured the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to roll out new notes to replace the existing currency in circulation.

“In line with the provisions of Sections 2(b), Section 18(a) and Section 19, Seb section(a) and (b) (2007), the management of the CBN has sought and obtained the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to redesign, produce, release and circulate new series of banknotes at N200, N500 and N1,00 levels,” he said.

“In line with this approval, we have finalised arrangements for the new currency to begin circulation from December 15, 2022 after its launch by President Buhari.

“The new and existing currencies shall remain legal tender and circulate together until January 31, 2023 when the existing currencies shall cease to be a legal tender.”

Once the new notes are designed Nigerians are expected to take old notes to banks for the new notes.

The CBN Governor is also concerned about how Nigerian currency is being stored currently.

According to him, the bulk of the nation’s currency notes was outside bank vaults and the CBN would not allow the situation to continue.

Emefiele added, “To be more specific, as of the end of September 2022, available data at the CBN indicates that N2.7 trillion out of the N3.3 trillion currency in circulation was outside the vault of commercial banks across the country and supposedly held by members of the public.

“Evidently, currency in circulation has more than doubled since 2015, rising from N1.46 trillion in December 2015 to N3.2 trillion as of September 2022. I must say that this is a worrisome trend that must not be continued to be allowed.”

According to him, the initiative by the CBN will help address some of the nation’s security threats, especially kidnapping and terrorism.

He believes that terrorists and kidnappers capitalise on the large excess of money to carry out their nefarious activities.
