A former Minister of Transportation, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, has denied collecting road contracts from Governor Nyesom Wike of River State
Sekibo, who was appointed as the Director General of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers, was reacting to a claim by Wike that he was given N5.5 billion contracts by the state government.
Recall that Wike accused Sekibo of working the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, despite receiving N2.1bn Okrika sand-filling contract, N2bn Okochiri internal road contract, and the N1.4bn contract for the Okujaku Street, Danjuma Drive in Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt, from his administration.
The Rivers governor described the formerly minister as a self-centered politician who has failed to attract any kind of democratic dividends to his local council, Okrika Local Government Area of the state.
Reacting to the claim in a statement on Tuesday by his lawyer, Christian Onuobodo Elenwo, Sekibo said the allegation by the Governor was as an orchestrated attempt to tarnish his image.
The former minister denied receiving the said contracts, saying he only recommended competent contractors to execute the projects at Wike’s request.
The PDP chieftain therefore asked Wike to immediately retract the false allegations and the publication of unreserved apology to him.
