EX-NASARAWA DEPUTY GOVERNOR REGAINS FREEDOM AFTER N4M RANSOM

Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, has regained his freedom from kidnappers.

The professor of law was abducted from his home in Rinza, near Wamba, in the early hours of April 7th. It was reported that the kidnappers initially demanded N70 million ransom, but the family negotiated down to N2 million and later N3.5 million before eventually paying N4 million.

Confirming his release, Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, Nansel Nimyel, stated that the former deputy governor was released after a ransom of N4 million was paid.

He was later taken back to the Palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo.

Kidnapping for ransom has become a recurrent issue in Nigeria, particularly in the northern region.

The government and security agencies have been criticized for their inability to stem the tide of insecurity in the country.
