BREAKING: OGUN POLICE ARREST PORTABLE

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested the controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, commonly called Portable.

The arrest comes after the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum given to the the controversial singer by the police to report himself to the command.

It would be recalled that Ogun State Police Command has issued a 72-hour ultimatum for the sensational singer to report himself to the nearest police station or be arrested by Friday.

RETRACT YOUR STATEMENT, JUST EVENT ONLINE TELLS SALIHU MUSTAPHA'S AIDE

A frontline online media in Kwara State, Just Event Online has asked Mallam Saliu Mustapha’s aide, Barrister Abdulkareem Alabi to retract his statement made to the media house.

This came after he described the media’s work as “Brainless” after a story published over the court order which granted the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Kwara Central Senatorial Candidate, Aiyelabegan Kayode Abdul to inspect, scan and make Photocopies of the ballot papers and other electoral materials used at the NASS Election conducted on 25th February 2023, and enable the Applicant to prosecute his petition against the Respondent, the Senator-Elect, Mallam Saliu Mustapha.

Abdul Kareem made the statement in a WhatsApp group, Kwara Commission on Wednesday

S.O. Abdulareem Esq of the Election Tribunal gave the order on Wednesday, 29th March 2023 in Ilorin, the State capital.

Just Event Online gathered that the Senator-elect evaded court service six times which prompted the order.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared Saliu Mustapha the winner of the Kwara Central Senatorial election.

Aiyelabegan rejected the results of the election and vowed to challenge the outcome of the poll in court. He also called for the cancellation of the NASS election.

The online media expressed disappointment that despite being a legal practitioner and aide to a Lawmaker elect, he still dares to challenge the media profession.

It however restated that Abdulkareem withdraw his statement or be charged further.

WHAT PDP WOULD HAVE DONE FOR US IF ATIKU HAD WON – FAYOSE

A former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has reacted to the recent development  and suspension of some prominent members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

He noted that the PDP National Working Committee should be in a very sober and reflective mood after losing a national election.

Fayose made this assertion via a statement via his verified Twitter handle on Friday.

He stated, “Imagine what they would have done if Atiku had won! They would have been more than heinous politically. Should we thank God Atiku lost?

At least, as it is now, the party can now pick the pieces and face tomorrow as we bid Ayu farewell.

“Think of this…lmagine a PDP National Working Committee that should be in very sober and reflective mood after losing a national election, going after leaders perceived to be their enemies, including a sitting governor in the party and suspending them!” he added.

Recall that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyorchia Ayu has been suspended by the party.

The suspension of Ayu was effected by the Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

But, the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday reviewed and reversed the suspensions of some of its chieftains.

The members whose suspension was lifted include former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim; Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, Dr. Aslam Aliyu, and H.E Ibrahim Shema.

POLICE DESCRIBES PORTABLE'S ACTION AS CRIMINAL OFFENCE

The Police have condemned the actions of singer Habeeb Okikiola aka ‘Portable'

The police said ‘Portable’ was seen in a viral video, where he was: “exhibiting irrational behaviour and hurling insults at officers carrying out their legal duty”.

Force Headquarters said his action is criminal and punishable by the criminal laws of Nigeria

Reacting to the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement in Abuja said: “The action of the singer in the video was unruly and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and incitement of violence against the officers who were detailed to execute a warrant of arrest on him for series of allegations of criminal acts leveled against Mr Portable.

PENGASSAN PEGS PETROL PRICE AT N360/N400 AFTER SUBSIDY REMOVAL

PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo made this known to newsmen on the sidelines of the association’s National Executive Council meeting which was held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Asked what the price per litre of petrol should be after the removal of subsidy, Osifo said, “Today, the sole importer of PMS into Nigeria is the NNPC. The NNPC is using an exchange rate of the CBN which gives about N400 to N450 depending on the day and depending on the window that you are looking at. So, if you compute that into the model today, PMS should be selling for a region of about N360 to N400.”

A litre of petrol is currently sold at N184 at some parts of the country and slightly higher than that in other regions, even as fuel scarcity and long queues gradually subside in most cities.

However, Osifo said that the association has compelled all its organs nationwide to make fuel available for Nigerians and threatened to withdraw the licenses of any member found wanting of hoarding petrol

He said functional local refineries will not only make fuel affordable but provide jobs for Nigerians. The PENGASSAN chief advised that the money removed from fuel subsidy could be used to end the perennial strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

He said, “While maintaining our support for the full deregulation of the sector and the significant milestone achieved in this regard, we counsel that efforts be made to increase the pace of the current rehabilitation exercise of refineries and get them back on track in due time.”

Osifo said the currency swap as well as sporadic fuel scarcity across the country must be addressed by the incoming administration while palliatives must be made available to Nigerians to cushion the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy.

PDP APPOINTS ILIYA DAMAGUM AS ACTING NATIONAL CHAIRMAN

The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu has stepped aside as the chairman of the party.

Ayu was replaced by the Deputy National Chairman, (North) Umar Iliya Damagum.

Damagum will assume office as the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, pending the determination of the case in court.

Recall that a High Court in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, had restrained embattled Ayu from parading himself as chairman of the party pending the determination of the substantive suit which has been adjourned to April 17, 2023 for hearing.

A member of the PDP from Benue, Terhide Utaan, who is the plaintiff before Justice W. I Kpochi, obtained the order restraining Ayu from parading himself as national chairman of the party.

Addressing journalists in Makurdi after obtaining the court order, the plaintiff said following the suspension of Ayu by his Igyorov Ward Exco on Sunday, it is wrong for him to keep up with the office of national chairman and further disunite the party.

Ayu was suspended late last week for anti-party activities in the wake of the party’s loss in the presidential election.

But in a Monday statement by his media aide Simon Imobo-Tswam, the former lawmaker argued that only the ward lacked the powers to suspend him.

Ayu’s political rival in the PDP and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Monday, said he is elated that Benue State ward exco passed a vote of no confidence in him.

“I am not from Benue State, but I am happy, and now that Benue State has done it, we would now come out and say we are in support of it,” he said.

Prior to this development, there had been intense calls for Ayu to step aside for a Southerner to take over as the Chairman of the party.

COURT BLOCKS OYO GOVT'S ACCOUNTS IN FOUR BANKS OVER ‘N3.4B DEBT

Justice Ebong issued the order while ruling on a motion ex-parte for garnishee order filed by the ex-chairpersons and councillors led by Misters Bashorun Majeed, Bosun Ajuwon and Idris Okusesi.

The affected banks are First Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Wema Bank and Zenith Bank.

Justice Ebong ordered the banks to show cause why the order should not be made absolute.

The funds, according to court filings, are to settle the outstanding balance of N3,374,889,425.60 from the judgment debt owed some former local government chairpersons and councillors sacked on 29 May 29 2019 before the end of their tenure by Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde

The garnishee proceeding, initiated for the chairpersons and councillors by their lawyer, Musibau Adetunbi, is in the execution of a judgment they got against the governor and six others from the Supreme Court on 7 May 2021.

The ruling reads that A garnishee order is hereby granted to attach the judgment debtors’ accounts with garnishees Nos. 1 to 4 in the motion ex-parte, for the purpose of settling the judgment debt outstanding in the sum of N3,374,889,425.60 as awarded by the Supreme Court and conceded by the judgment debtors in Exhibit 11 attached to the applicant’s motion.

The garnishees (1st to 4th) shall file affidavits and attend court on the next adjourned date to show cause why the order nisi should not be made absolute.

It was gathered that the judgment creditors have since effected service of copies of the order on the judgment debtors as ordered by the court.

Listed as judgment debtors with the Oyo State Governor is the state’s Attorney General, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Accountant General, the House of Assembly, it’s Speaker and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

The ex-chairpersons and councillors were elected in the election conducted by OYSIEC on 12 March 2018 for a three-year term.

While learning that Mr Makinde, who took office on 29 May 2019 had planned to sack them, they sued before the High Court of Oyo State to challenge the constitutionality of Sections 11 and 12 of the Oyo State Local Government Law 2001, which empowered the governor and the House of Assembly to dissolve LG executives in the state.

In its judgment on 6 May 2019, the Oyo State High Court declared Sections 11 and 12 of the state’s Local Government Law 2001 as unconstitutional, on the grounds that it violated Section 7(1) of the Constitution.
Despite the subsistence of the judgment, Mr Makinde sacked the chairpersons and councillors on 29 May 2019 and subsequently appealed the judgment.

The Court of Appeal, in its judgment on 15 July 2020 set aside the judgment of the High Court, a decision the affected officials appealed at the Supreme Court.

In its judgment on 7 May 2021, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, allowed the appeal and set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal.

The court, which awarded a cost of N20 million against Mr Makinde.

OYETOLA REFUSES TO CONGRATULATE ME AFTER COURT JUDGEMENT.. ADELEKE

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, said  the immediate past governor of the State, Gboyega Oyetola, has not congratulated him after his Appeal Court victory.

Adeleke who said he was open to working with the former governor said he had yet to hear from Oyetola.

The governor said this when he featured on Arise TV Morning Show on Monday.

“Immediately after the news of the Appeal Court (judgement), I tried to reach out, I called him – the former Governor Oyetola – to let us forge ahead to move Osun forward, but up till now, he has not called me to congratulate me and I’m still hoping that he will do that because we don’t have any other state than Osun State here. So, I’m ready, my hands are open, let’s come together and move Osun State forward,” Adeleke said.

When asked what he would like to say to Oyetola, Adeleke made a U-turn on reaching out to Oyetola, saying he never called the former governor.

“Well let me correct it, I did not say I put a call to him, what I said is I’m still expecting him to call me so that he can congratulate me, and if he wants to do otherwise and go ahead to the Supreme Court, he has the right to do that,” the governor said.

He reiterated that he would like to work with Oyetola.

The governor also said he was not afraid of the Supreme Court, saying he had his people and God on his side.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, last Friday, set aside the tribunal judgment that nullified the election of Adeleke as governor of the state.

The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Mohammed Lawal, held that the appeal lodged by Adeleke to challenge his sack by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was meritorious.

The court also awarded a sum of N500,000 as a cost against the All Progressive Congress and its candidate, Oyetola.

During the ruling, the justice resolved that the preponderance of proof that there was over-voting in the elections rested on the petitioner.

The court also maintained that “the party alleging non-compliance with the electoral act must prove its case without merely relying on the weakness of the other party.”

Delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed Shaibu overruled the judgment of the governorship election tribunal that nullified the outcome of the July governorship polls.

The three-man panel revoked the tribunal’s order which directed that a Certificate of Return be withdrawn from Adeleke and issued to his predecessor and All Progressives Congress candidate, Oyetola.

The Court of Appeal set aside the tribunal judgement, affirming Adeleke as the authentic winner and governor of Osun State.

PDP SUSPENDS AYU OVER ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu has been suspended by the party.

The suspension of Dr. Ayu was effected by the Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

Addressing the media Sunday, on behalf of Kashi Philip, the Ward Chairman, the Ward Secretary Mr. Vangeryina Dooyum explained that Dr. Ayu was suspended by the Executive for alleged anti party activities.

Reading from a text signed by 12 out of the 17 member Ward Executive, the Secretary stated that the decision to suspend the National Chairman was reached after the leadership reviewed his conduct at the end of the just concluded general elections

Flanked by the Chairman and other members, the Secretary said, “we observed with utmost dismay that, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu who is the National Chairman of the PDP worked against the success of the party in Igyorov Council Ward.

“It is on record that, he has also failed to pay his Annual Subscription Fees as provided under Section 8 (9) of the constitution of the PDP 2017 (As Amended).

“Further investigation also revealed that, he did not vote during the Governorship and State Assembly Elections held on  March 18, 2023.

“It was also discovered that, most of his closest allies worked for the opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, and hence, the abysmal performance of the PDP in Igyorov Ward.

In view of the foregoing, we hereby pass a Vote of No Confidence on Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and suspend him as a member of our party with immediate effect. The suspension takes effect from March 24, 2023.”

OGUN GUBER POLL: CANCELLED VOTES NOT IN EXCESS OF COLLECTED PVCs — PDP

The National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the declaration of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial poll in Ogun State as it pointed out that the cancelled votes are not more than the total number of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) collected in the area affected.

Addressing a press conference at the National secretariat of the party in Abuja on Saturday, the National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition party, Debo Ologunagba, stated that the declaration of Abiodun as the winner is completely at variance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 and Guidelines issues by INEC for the conduct of the election.

The party has, therefore, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review its activities to ensure that the will of the people prevails.

He said: “Specifically, from the summary of collated results at the governorship election, it is evident that our candidate was in the clear lead before compromised officials of INEC connived with the defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) to cancel PDP’s thousands of winning votes and brazenly declare the Candidate of the APC, Mr Adedapo Abiodun as the winner, in violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

“It is instructive for INEC to note that with the cancelled votes, the margin of lead between Mr Adedapo Abiodun of the APC and the PDP Governorship Candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu is not more than the total number of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) collected in Polling Units where election did not hold or cancelled by INEC, citing disruption of polls.

“Whereas the number of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) collected in places where elections were not held or cancelled is 33,750, the margin of lead between the two candidates as announced by INEC Returning Officer is 13,915 thereby invalidating the Declaration and Return made by INEC.

“In such circumstance, Section 24 (3) (4) of the Electoral Act, 2022 expressly mandates INEC to appoint a new date for the conduct of the polls in the Polling Units where the election did not hold or cancelled before any Return can be made.”

For clarity, the PDP spokesman cited Section 24 (3) (4) of the Electoral Act, which expressly stipulates in S. 24 that: (3) “Where an election has commenced and there is reason to believe that there is or has been substantial disruption of election in a polling unit or constituency or it is impossible to continue with the election occasioned by the threat to peace and security of electoral officials and materials, the Commission shall suspend the election and appoint another date for the continuation of the election or the process.

“(4) Where the Commission appoints a substituted date by subsections (2) and (3), there shall be no return for the election until polling has taken place in the area or areas affected.”

According to the PDP, the hurried declaration of the APC candidate by the INEC Returning Officer as the winner is therefore a declaration made contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, Regulations and Guidelines stipulated by INEC for the election.

Ologunagba added: “In a situation such as this, the only option available to INEC is to exercise its powers under Section 65 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 to review the wrongful Declaration and Return made within seven days.”

He added that for the avoidance of doubt, Section 65 (1) provides that: “The decision of the returning officer shall be final on any question arising from or relating to— (a) unmarked ballot paper; (b) rejected ballot paper; and (c) declaration of scores of candidates and the return of a candidate:

“Provided that the Commission shall have the power within seven days to review the declaration and return where the Commission determines that the said declaration and return were not made voluntarily or was made contrary to the provisions of the law, regulations and guidelines, and manual for the election.”

The PDP megaphone further stated: “It is therefore reckless and highly condemnable that INEC would cancel PDP’s winning votes and hurriedly Declare and Return the defeated candidate of the APC as the winner, in gross violation of the Law and total disregard for the Will of the people as expressed at the election

The PDP cautioned INEC to “save Ogun State an imminent breakdown of Law and Order by reviewing the Declaration and Return made,” adding: “INEC must realize that the people of Ogun State are already agitated and are unwilling to accept a declaration that does not reflect their expressed Will at the election.”

Ologunagba informed that the PDP is also reviewing other states where the electoral umpire behaved similarly, adding: “We want to be sure that we give the facts as they are.”
The PDP, however, welcomed the Court of Appeal verdict affirming the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, saying that it is a confirmation of the people’s choice.

While appreciating the affirmation of the desire of the people, Ologunagba noted that PDP’s faith in Judiciary has been strengthened.

KWARA BEGINS REDEMPTION BATTLE AGAINST EL-KANEMI WARRIORS IN AKURE

Kwara United Football Club will tomorrow, Sunday March 26th, 2023 begin the journey towards redeeming their chances of making it to the Super Six, as they take the centre stage against El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri at their newly adopted home.ground, Akure Township Stadium, in the Matchday 10 of the NPFL.

Playing under a new Technical Adviser, Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo, who has rejigged the squad and also added eight new players, much is expected of the team which is presently in the 8th position in Group A of the ongoing 2022/2023 Abridged League.
Kwara United Football Club started the season in Ibadan following the ongoing regrassing of the Main-Bowl of the State Stadium Complex, winning just a game out of four home matches, losing one and drawing two.

The team ended the first round winning two matches, drawing three and losing four, has minus five goals, with nine points, making it an average of one goal par match.

Ahead of the commencement of the second round hostilities, Coach Dogo has charged players and officials of the club to be resolute and redouble their effort to make qualification for Super Six a reality.

While interacting with the players after landing in Akure, the Technical Adviser told the players that securing a place in the top six would not only put the club in contention for a continental spot, but would also give them an avenue to showcase and market their talents to international scouts and the national team.

Coach Dogo stressed the need for the players to remain disciplined and focused, stressed the fact that Kwarans are waiting to hear only good news.

According to him, the 25 players that made the list to Akure are not  better than those who couldn't, hence they should regard themselves as priveledged, and work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.

In his words, "This second stanza of the Abridged League is the real deal.

Teams currently occupying the top can go down, and teams at the bottom of the table can go atop.

This is why we need to take every match seriously. With the calibre of players we have now, I can beat my chest that nearly all of you are in top form. You would be disappointing yourselves and Kwarans if you fail to make it to the last six.

Kwara United Football Club beefed up its squad with eight players, who includes Yahaya Suleiman from Gombe United FC, Rasaq Alaji from Crown FC, Oginni Olatunbosun from Wikki Tourists FC and Kabiru Mohammed from Abia Warriors FC.

Others are Azeez Lawal from Wikki Tourists FC, Suleiman Salihu Dogo from Wikki Tourists FC, Kenneth James from Lobi Stars FC and Ayinde Kehinde from Ekranas Futbolo  Klubas.

NASS ELECTION: AJIA DISCONTINUES LEGAL SUIT AGAINST APC, INEC

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for llorin-West/Asa federal constituency in the February 25 general elections in Kwara, Alhaji lbrahim Mohammed Ajia, said that he is discontinuing the legal process instituted against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the spirit of Ramadan fasting.

In a statement, titled, "RE: MY OFFER TO SERVE: TIME TO MOVE ON", signed by him and made available to journalists in Ilorin at the weekend, Alhaji Ajia said that the decision was not because "we are expecting any consideration or gain from our opponent or his party but for the sake of God Almighty, the progress of our Constituency and our State".

The PDP candidate, who noted that he had reflected on one of the lessons of Ramadan, which he said is the spirit of forgiveness, added that, "this is the Holy month of Ramadan and I wish to discontinue the legal process we have instituted at the tribunal, against our opponent, APC and INEC".

Ajia said that he encountered limitations from both the tribunal panel and the INEC in the struggle to pursue the case, added that, "there were clear signs of collusion between INEC, APC and perhaps other authorities we may not know".

"But to keep the hope of our supporters alive, we filed our case inspite of many difficulties and challenges our legal team encountered in the process.

"After we briefed our lawyers, they filed an ex-parte motion for an order to compel INEC to allow us access to the electoral materials including the BVAS report.

"Despite the delay in granting our order, INEC refused to obey the order, up till this moment. That has limited the capacity of our legal team to present a robust case towards reclaiming our mandate.

"We have had representations and expressions of deep concerns by a lot of people about the apparent connivance between the APC and INEC and how that will impact the legal process. My immediate family has also expressed worries about
the diminishing possibility of an impartial legal process and urged me to let it go.

"More importantly, as a strong believer and a true Muslim, I believe that it is the Almighty Allah that gives power and to whom He wishes at the appointed time.

"As a progressive politician, my utmost desire is for our people to be served and represented effectively. I, therefore, wouldn't want to create excuses for the
purportedly declared winner by INEC that he was distracted by the legal contest when he fails.

"However, we will not be deterred by this temporary setback in pursuing our set goals of making life more meaningful for our people. This, we will continue to do through our Foundation and other engagements with various organizations and institutions we have contacts with.

"We will hold the government at all levels accountable to ensure
that our people are not shortchanged in any way.

"Once again, I thank most sincerely, the good people of llorin-West/Asa Federal constituency for the support we enjoyed throughout the campaigns. I will never let you down, I promise.

"I thank the leader of our great party in Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, for all his mentorship and support throughout our campaign.

BREAKING: APPEAL COURT REINSTATES ADELEKE AS OSUN GOVERNOR

The court of appeal sitting in Abuja has reinstated Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun state.

Delivering judgment in the appeal filed by Adeleke on Friday, a three-member panel of justices held that the election tribunal erred when it ruled that the 1st and 2nd respondents (Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress) proved their allegation of over-voting.

According to the panel of judges which issued its verdict on Friday, Adeleke is the duly elected governor of the state.

The Osun governorship election tribunal, in January, held that Oyetola was able to prove that there was over-voting in some of the polling units.

BREAKING: TENSION IN APC’s CAMP AS COURT ORDERS SERVICE OF PETITIONS ON TINUBU

There is growing tension in All Progressives Congress (APC), as Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting in Abuja, on Friday, ordered the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, should be served with copies of petitions seeking to nullify his election, through substituted means.

The ruling, according to the information gathered, comes after separate ex-parte applications that were brought before the court by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart in the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The duo accused Tinubu of deliberately avoiding the service of their petitions on him.

They told the court that several attempts they made to effect service of the petitions on Tinubu, proved abortive.

According to the petitioners, the President-elect deliberately made himself elusive with a view to frustrating their effort to hand him copies of the petition as required by the law.

Consequently, relying on Section 6(6a) and 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, Section 15 of the Court of Appeal Act, as well as Paragraph 8 of the First Schedule of the Electoral Act 2022, the petitioners sought the intervention of the Court.

Both Atiku and Obi further supported their ex-parte motions dated March 23, with affidavits of urgency and non-service, even as they persuaded the court to hear the applications, outside the pre-hearing session of their substantive petitions.

While Atiku’s application was moved on Friday by his legal team led by Mr Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, that of Obi and LP was moved by Mr Ikechukwu Ezechukwu, SAN.

ADELEKE VS OYETOLA: POLICE TIGHTEN SECURITY IN OSOGBO AS COURT DELIVERS JUDGEMENT

There is tight security across Osogbo, Osun State capital, as the Appeal Court in Abuja, today, decide the fate of Governor Ademola Adeleke and his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola.

The former governor of the state and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had challenged Adeleke’s victory in the July 16 governorship election, before the election petition tribunal in Osun state

The tribunal led by Justice Tertse Kume, in a split judgement of 2 to 1, sacked Adeleke based on irregularities in 744 polling units across ten local government areas of the state.

It cancelled the alleged illegal votes and declared Oyetola the winner on legally valid votes.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue it to Oyetola

Adeleke who was not pleased with the tribunal’s ruling approached the Appeal court to set aside the judgement and affirmed his victory.

According to the eports, security operatives are stationed in strategic places, including Olaiya flyover, Oke-Fia, Ayetoro and Stadium roundabout to halt the breakdown of law and order

Also, security personnel were stationed at the Tinubu-Shettima campaign office in Osogbo, the APC secretariat, Imole House, and the PDP secretariat at Biket junction among many other places.

APC VOIDS BOSS MUSTAPHA'S SUSPENSION, SAYS IT'S UNCONSTITUTIONAL

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has suspended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, for losing his polling unit to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the just concluded elections.

The Chairman of APC in Gwadabawa ward, Muazu Kabir, who announced the development at a media briefing in Yola, said the SGF was not committed to APC’s victory at the presidential election.

He added that Mustapha showed a lackadaisical attitude to the party.

Kabir said the indefinite suspension slammed on Mustapha followed complaints from his ward, adding that no individual was bigger than the party.

However, the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in a reaction, described the purported suspension of the SGF as “unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect.”

The APC acting Chairman in the state, Chief Samaila Tadawus, who addressed journalists at another press conference in Yola, said the committee has directed the party’s executive committee in Yola North local government area of the state to set up a disciplinary committee to immediately investigate and recommend appropriate action on the matter.

The party secretary in the state, Dr. Raymond Chidama, who was also at the briefing, said: “We hereby state clearly that such suspension is unconstitutional, null and void and is of no effect, because the State Working Committee has warned the ward executives in the past to desist from this acts of targeting elders of the party and disregarding constitutional provisions, appropriate sanctions will be applied after thorough investigations.

ANTI-TINUBU PROTESTERS GROUND ABUJA, DEMAND INTERIM GOVT, FRESH POLLS.

Fresh protests rocked the nation’s capital, Abuja, over the just concluded elections, with protesters kicking against the May 29 inauguration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and instead demanding the invocation of an Interim National Government, ING.

They asked Presidential Muhammadu Buhari to put the ING in place before he leaves office on May 29.

The angry Nigerians, who protested on the platform of the National Youth League for the Defence of Democracy, NYLDD, also demanded the immediate sack and arrest of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu by the Department Security Services, DSS.

Armed with various placards with different inscriptions, they also asked several foreign embassies in Nigeria to immediately revoke the visas of 15 INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs.

The RECs they want to be sanctioned are those of Lagos, Rivers, Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Jigawa, Kano and Imo. Others are Ebonyi, Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo, Cross River, Katsina and Edo States.

Addressing journalists at the Unity Fountain, where the protest started, one of the leaders of the group, Dr Moses Paul, said the interim government is expected to appoint a new INEC chairman and conduct a fresh election that will produce a befitting President for Nigeria.

He said; “We are citizens of Nigeria, lovers of Nigeria, standing on the path of our constitution and citizens’ rights.

We are here particularly to address the greatest crime that has happened in the history of the world and in Nigeria.

People were burnt in Kano, people were shot in Rivers, and we have seen the greatest inhumanity happen in Lagos state in the course of this election.

“Two demands we are making; we are asking the President of this country to immediately arrest and prosecute the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who has committed the greatest fraud in the history of humanity.

“We need him arrested and prosecuted.

Our number two demand is that we are asking that an interim government be put in place. We are saying that, because we do not want President Muhammadu Buhari to continue, his tenure is ending, so as a father he should put in place an interim government so that the interim government will now appoint another INEC chairman who will conduct a free and credible election and produce a befitting President for our country.”

When asked to provide other options if the two demands were not met, one of the co-conveners, Anngu Orngu, said they are harmless Nigerians “but we will use every other civil and lawful means to make sure that our demands are met”.

SUPER SIX IS OUR TARGET ... COACH DOGO CHARGES PLAYERS.

Kwara United Football Club technical adviser, Coach Kabiru Suleiman Dogo has charged players and officials of the club to be resolute and redouble their effort to make qualification for 'super six' a reality.

In his interaction with the players after landing in Akure, the TA told the players that securing a place in the top six would not only put the club in contention for a continental spot, but would also give them an avenue to showcase and market their talents to international scouts and the national team.

Coach Dogo stressed the need for the players to remain disciplined and focused, stressed the fact that Kwarans are waiting to hear only good news.

The twenty five players that made the list to Akure are not  better than those who couldn't, hence they should regard themselves as priveledged, and work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them, He said.

APC SUSPENDS BOSS MUSTAPHA INDEFINITELY OVER NEGLECT OF HIS WARD

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gwadabawa ward, Yola north LGA of Adamawa state, has suspended Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

Addressing a press conference in Yola on Wednesday, Mu’azu Kabiru, chairperson of APC Gwadabawa, said Mustapha failed to assist the party at the ward level when his attention was needed.

During the presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won the Yola north LGA.

In the governorship election, Aisha Binani, governorship candidate of the APC, won the LGA but not by a wide margin.

Kabiru said the SGF has failed to recognise the importance of the party’s executives in Gwadabawa who have worked to keep the ward united.

The ward chairman did not give a duration for the suspension.

However, Samaila Tadawus, acting chairperson of the APC in Adamawa, dismissed the suspension, saying that it was unconstitutional.

We hereby state clearly that such suspension is unconstitutional, null and void and is of no effect, because the state working committee has warned the ward executives in the past to desist from these acts of targeting elders of the party,” Tadawus said.

The suspension or expulsion of any party member must be approved by their LGA, state working committee, and the national working committee (NWC) before it can stand

I HAVE FINISHED MY EARTHLY MINISTRY, I WILL DIE SOON – ANAMBRA PASTOR, ODUMEJE

Controversial Anambra pastor, Chukwuemeka Ohanere, popularly known as Odumeje, has said he will die soon, having completed his work on earth.
The pastor came into limelight with his weird pattern of spiritual deliverance, where he carries miracle seeking members of his church in a manner akin to the WWE wrestlers, and smashes them on the floor.
He was in the news last year after he confronted officials of the Anambra State Government, who had come to demolish his church. He was beaten during the encounter.
During Sunday service, Odumeje, in a video circulating online, was heard telling his church members that it was time for him to go.

He said: “I have called my little son, KingDavid, and I told him that very soon, I your father will leave. You must take care of your brothers and your mother.
“I came to this world for a purpose, and that purpose has been fulfilled. I have finished my earthly ministry, and I will leave soon,” he told the congregation.
Odumeje has fought several battles, and has challenged many native doctors to open contests on their ability to perform miracles. He is 40 years old.

A FINAL MEMO TO KWARA NORTH: IT'S EITHER NOW OR NEVER...... BY ONILEMARUN ABDULKAREEM

Dear Kwara Northerners, it is deliberate that I chose to delay until the last minute before sending this message. With less than 24 hours to the much anticipated 2023 governorship election in our dear State, I believe you will need a fundamental truth to take to heart as you go out to cast your ballot. This is therefore a service I have placed on myself, if only to satisfy the demand of conscience and to place on record my attempt to warn you of the steep political road ahead should you fail to get your son, Alhaji Abdullahi Yaman to the Government House in Ahmadu Bello way in this election.

My check revealed that the last time Kwara North produced a governor was in 1993 when Alhaji Shaaba Lafiagi governed the State from January 1992 to November 1993. It is now 30 years since then. That is a long period of time; in fact, it is the entire years of existence of some independent countries like Eritrea, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and others. I’m therefore one of those who readily admit that your region has long been out of power and deserves to get it this time, even though I do not think you are going about it the right way.

To begin with, while your strategy of negotiation to gain power is an excellent one, the lack of coordinated and single-minded effort on the part of the region is quite indicative of a glaring disunity in your quest. While a group within your region, the Kwara North Stakeholders Consultative Forum undertook an aggressive campaign, asking all major political parties to concede their governorship ticket to Kwara North, only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) eventually honoured that request. But despite the promise of KWSCF that “the people of the zone will support any political party that zoned governorship to Kwara North,” observers were left wondering when a report filtered in that “unusual crowd of political stakeholders of Kwara north extraction converged to call on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to contest the 2023 governorship elections in the state.” Apparently, this is an indication that your region is not even united in its agitation for power. How then can you expect other parts of the state to take you seriously?

As often said, power is not granted, it is acquired. To be sure, the fear of domination and the risk of being kept out of the mainstream of power equation in the state which Kwara north has always expressed are valid concerns; but the situation is not peculiar to Kwara and it is in fact consistent with the asymmetrical power relations which have shaped human social existence and experiences through history. However, those who have been able to record success with the agitation for power were united in their demand, unlike the case with your region which has shown in its quest a glaring case of what Murray Edelma refers to as “the united we stand myth.” It is now obvious that Kwara North is not united in its agitation for power.

After all is said, Kwara north’s best chance at occupying the governorship seat depends largely on tomorrow’s election. With the well-publicized ‘blackmail’ of supporting the party that fields a Kwara northerner as candidate, any failure on the part of your region to mobilize sufficient votes for Abdullahi Yamman tomorrow would have revealed a glaring lack of commitment to the demand for concession of power which you seek from other parts of the State.

Unfortunately, democracy thrives on the concept of majority rule which stipulates that the majority should make political decisions for the whole group, and for the majority to consider it fair to concede power, those who seek it, in this case Kwara north, must themselves approach their agitation in unity. That appears to be missing.

If for any reason the PDP candidate, Abdullahi Yamman loses tomorrow’s election, his failure would have removed the veil from any argument of marginalization which Kwara north may want to put forward either in 2027 or anytime in the future. The ‘Kwara north, it is now or never’ slogan used by the PDP in some of its campaign materials was in recognition of this glaring fact. Should Yamman lose tomorrow, especially if he performs poorly in Kwara north itself; your region would have buried any claim to equity in any future contestation for power in the state. You definitely can not claim that anyone is unfair to you if you reject your own and by doing so prove unfair even to yourself.

Since there is no law preventing any candidate from the other regions from exercising their right to contest, Kwara north would be better off to start preparation for a battle for the governorship ticket ahead of 2027 if it misses this chance. If the PDP has given Yamman the ticket and his region refuses to vote for him, then Kwara North would have lost the moral right to complain of any sort of marginalization henceforth. Like the Kwara PDP has warned, IT IS NOW OR NEVER.
